The Trashmen used to play at The Country Dam (near Amery Wi.). At the same time there was a group from California called The XXXX Brothers (I can't remember their name). They played there two summers. They played a song which I believe now was the Rivington's PA PA Om Mow Mow..At the time I thought it was an orginal of the XXXX Brothers. When the Trashmen Came out with Surfing Bird I thought it was a poor copy of what the XXXX Brothers did.72.187.244.207 22:16, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Solotau[reply]

Sorenson Brothers. They played a show with the Trashmen in Wisconsin when they heard the Sorenson's cover believing it to be an original. Steve, the drummer for the Trashmen, liked the song and wanted to make it more like a teen dance song like was popular at the time. The Trashmen had never heard of The Rivingtons until much later and gave them writers credit and royalties. In an act of good faith, The Trashmen credited them as writers in their follow up "Bird Dance Beat". Weaponepsilon (talk) 03:31, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

One of the trashmen[edit]

At Universal Studios in Florida while riding a boat from the Royal Pacific, the boat captain told us that he had been part of a group and had the hit "Bird is the word". He talked about all the names the group had over the years, and that he was still getting royalty checks for the song. No, not likely at all a member of "The Trashmen". In fact, I can pretty much guarantee it. Years ago, members of the band went to an event and there was some guy talking up about how he was a founding member of the band. This guy talked himself into a hole and then realized he was actually talking to the band themselves.
