Pronunciation[edit]

When the band first had a hit in Britain, its name was routinely pronounced SPOT-nicks, so no-one made any connection with the name of the Russian satellite. I suspect - but only realised many years later - that this may be due to the common Swedish pronunciation of the letter O as the English OO, as in the verb "bo" meaning "to live" and pronounced like English BOO. I've checked the Wiki article on "Sputnik", but unfortunately Swedish is one of the very few European languages without a version of its own.213.127.210.95 (talk) 20:24, 18 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
