First sentence

Per WP:LEAD, the first sentence of the lead section should identify the most noteworthy context upfront. That context is the starring actor Christian Bale and the Edgar Allan Poe connection, rather than the director and the writer, based on reliable sources headlining the actor and Poe's presence.. We are not required to name the director in the first sentence every time, especially when they are not household names or not being headlined. Red link

Per WP:REDLINK, "Red links for subjects that should have articles but do not, are not only acceptable, but needed in the articles. They serve as a clear indication of which articles are in need of creation, and encourage it. Only remove red links if you are certain that Wikipedia should not have an article on that subject." Genre

It seems like this film is potentially associated with a few plausible film genres. I'm starting this discussion to see what we can go with per WP:FILMLEAD. First, the film has not come out yet, so it may be too soon to lock something in. That said, a search engine test using "pale blue eye" "netflix" "christian bale" "<genre>" shows the following counts for me:

• horror: 159K results
• thriller: 164K results
• mystery: 108K results
• Gothic: 21.7K results

This is not a perfect check, but I think it shows the lack of clarity (other than Gothic being the least important). The results are a mix of reports and databases that detail this film, so when the film comes out, we can pay attention to the reviews as secondary sources that have actually seen the film and indicate what genre(s) it fits. We want to use the most verifiable genre or sub-genre per WP:FILMLEAD, so we can't just call it a "horror/thriller/mystery film". However, whatever does not wind up before "film" could still be mentioned in some capacity later in the lead section (and the article body). One final note, Netflix's page for this film does say, "Genres: Mysteries, Period Pieces, Movies Based On Books".

We need to follow WP:FILMLEAD, though: "At minimum, the opening sentence should identify... the primary genre or sub-genre under which it is verifiably classified... Genre classifications should comply with WP:WEIGHT and represent what is specified by a majority of mainstream reliable sources." While there are results for "pale blue eye" "netflix" "christian bale" "period mystery thriller", it is only 686. We cannot "mash up" genres said by different sources. John Fetterman

Rgs25, I'm not sure if we need a whole paragraph in the "Production" about John Fetterman having a cameo in the film. I would suggest having a bullet point with his name and the inline citation in the "Cast" section. Or at least to shorten the paragraph into a simple sentence, without the quoting, of what amounts to a very small role. Thoughts from you and others? Erik, that's a fair point. I thought it could involve a few sentences since it's pretty unusual for a Senator to be in a movie, but if it would be better positioned somewhere else that works for me. (I'm just an amateur editor!) Rgs25 (talk) 21:36, 12 December 2022 (UTC)

I agree that it's unusual, but I think it can also feel more important this year in particular with Fetterman's prominence and may not feel as pertinent years down the road. Should "Contains Spoilers" be added to 'Plot'?

It would be nice if the content didn't reveal EVERYTHING - seems to spoil things for anyone who hasn't yet seen the flick. It did for me.
