Godfrey Paine[edit]

Godfrey Paine appears to have been chairman of both companies but looking for further references. MilborneOne (talk) 21:55, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ord-Hume describes these two companies separately but sequentially, concluding the The Metal Airscrew Co piece with "The business was later known as:" (newline) "Metal Propellers". Despite that, I agree that it's likely they were not legally related. He does not give a formation date for Metal Propellers but does say Watts was chief designer 1925-7. Board members included John de Caynoth Ballardie, Harold Balfour and Alfred Chambers, all on the boards of other aircraft companies. Doesn't say if these guys were earlier on Metal Airscrew's board. Leitner is not mentioned at the latter company. Also O-H does not mention Paine in connection with either, so his pieces are not complete. There was a change of address to Purley Way, Croyden, though they may not have manufactured at Regent House.
The histories of aircraft companies often seem tortuous, particular in those years of boom and bust (what's new?), with companies liquidating then reforming, debt free and often with the same owners.TSRL (talk) 09:38, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Company Name[edit]

The official notices of liquidation in the London Gazette show the company as "Metal Airscrew Company Limited" and doesnt use "The" as part of the name. MilborneOne (talk) 21:57, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The London Gazette probably trumps Ord-Hume. He uses "The Metal Aiscrew" but "Metal Propellers Ltd", to so the "the" is not automatic. I've not been through Flight systematically but [here] the article is included in the name.TSRL (talk) 09:13, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
