personal recollection[edit]

The personal recollection of the brother of Frank Slavin names the members of of The Kingpins as; Mel Thomas, Harry Taylor, Brian Oldroyd, and Frank Slavin. The references correlate with Mel Thomas (aka Brad Newman), but did Harry Taylor, and Brian Oldroyd, have stage names of John Putnam, and Brian Adams, or vice-versa? Recollections also include; the The Kingpins were initially part of a Glee club formed by Ken Idle (later an Entertainment Manager at Butlins), that sang at George Street Dewsbury; that they began playing in Working men's clubs; that they recorded a demo record, a version of Down by the Riverside; that they played the Pavilion Theatre (Glasgow), toured United States Army Bases in Germany, and played theatres in Southern England including Clacton; and that Brian Oldroyd joined The Raindrops. Can anyone corroborate these recollections? Also, Frank Slavin is missing from the photograph on the cover of the Drumbest LP, would anyone know why? Best Regards.
