The Island Of Adventure book was made into a movie in 1981 - www.imdb.com/title/tt0417805/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.99.210.174 (talk) 20:25, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you, I've now incorporated some information on the film into both this article and the one on the book itself. Jellyman (talk) 08:45, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Mountain adventure.JPG[edit]

Image:Mountain adventure.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Cockatoo or parrot?[edit]

I question the description of Kiki as a cockatoo. I am sure the books always describe her as a parrot, never as a cockatoo - although I'd have to check the books again to make absolutely sure of that.

If this is so, the two instances of "cockatoo" should probably be changed to "parrot". M.J.E. (talk) 15:56, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I went back and checked my copy of The Island of Adventure and found the first description of KiKI is "a beautiful parrot, scarlet and grey, with a big crest on its head that it worked up and down". No where in the book does it specify cockatoo, but does refer to her as a parrot a number of times, so that is what I will make the article reflect. VA6DK (talk) 05:12, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't made any edits to the Article, but I think I can add further explanation. Kiki is described generically as a parrot, but is clearly a cockatoo, a type of parrot native to Australia. The description you give from The Island of Adventure indicates that she is in all likelihood intended to be a Gang-gang cockatoo, however if this is the case she displays the male colouring (the females of this species do not have the distinctive scarlet feathers). Confusion may arise from the fact that Kiki is depicted on the book jackets as a Sulfur-creasted Cockatoo, a larger parrot with a white body and wings and a large vivid yellow crest on the head. This species is arguably the best-known and one of the most readily domesticated of the Australian cockatoos. DuchessofNewTown (talk) 03:06, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Unless we can find a WP:RS describing Kiki as a cockatoo we can't include it in the article. GimliDotNet (Speak to me,Stuff I've done) 07:20, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I read somewhere--many years ago--that Blyton based Kiki on a real parrot (or cockatoo) she had known, with a similar huge vocabulary. Might help with this issue. Anyone know of an RS? --D Anthony Patriarche, BSc (talk) 17:29, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adaptations[edit]

I recall a movie (or at least a TV movie) made in the 80s and starring Chloe Franks as Dinah. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LeapUK (talkcontribs) 19:52, 4 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
