Tenjho Tenge

Yep, that's the official name according to the manga covers. I can't say I like it though. -- Philip Nilsson 00:27, 17 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Oh Great!

Was the H-manga "Silky Whip" also by Oh Great! ?

This page suggests so. Philip Nilsson 17:03, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Silky Whip was indeed made by Oh! Great, and is available in English from Eros Comix. I hope some day that the japanese will have a legal licence to sell some manga "HENTAI" magacine

control chi

I didn't edit what I suspect to be a mistranslation: I suspect author meant to say she uses her control over her chi to shrink rather than she controls her chi BY shrinking. I'm not familiar with the story line so I refrain. It seems to be a confusion between cause (control over chi) and effect or result (shrinking). But perhaps she uses some magic or technology to shrink thereby gaining, changing or losing chi.Perhaps someone familar with the story line would step in?

She changes her size in order to hold back. Alternatively as some kind of training. I think they explain the shrinking as some chi-ability. --Philip Nilsson 10:18, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Treatment of the character Bob

I've only progressed a very short way into this series so far (I am watching the anime), but I wanted to see if anyone else noticed the treatment of the character Bob in this anime. He is a foreigner, he is black, and he seems to be in a relationship with a Japanese girl, all of which would typically give writers reason to dislike him, and yet he doesn't seem to succumb to the typical stereotypes of most anime. Foreigners are loud and brash, violent, and typically stupid, and are outclassed by their Japanese counterparts in every respect--and that's for white foreigners, other ethnicities tend to get it even worse. And yet, in Tenjou Tenge, Bob so far seems to be very intelligent, soft-spoken, and even kind.

I just wanted to see if anyone else has caught on to the remarkably positive treatment this character has received in Tenjou Tenge. I find it to be very refreshing. And I hope that as I progress beyond episode 3 it doesn't do an about-face. --Kuronekoyama 04:57, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)

Black people are generally treated well by mangaka in my experience. <insert examples> --Philip Nilsson 10:18, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

You bring up an intresting point. The thing is, black charcters were almost non existant in anime int he beginning, but in the few anime that black charcters are in,they are treated fairly well. Examples are the aformentioned Bob Makihara as well as Jason Ozuma from Hajime No Ippo, Claudia and Bowie Grant from Robotech, ect. Most of them are seen as polite and the more level headed member of a particular group. Often, they are partially assimilated into Japanese society by having an American or English first name and a Japanese last name (another example besides Bob Makihara would be Jason Ozuma from Hajime no Ippo.)Mackarony 17:04, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

arent most characters in anime white? they have bleu or green eyes, red, blond or brown hair? what's not white about that? only their names are japanese...

Yeah it's rare to see black people in anime I always make fun of my friends becasue of that, but they really get irratated by me because I'm half black...--Cojin 02:24, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Character pages

i decided it was a travesty to not have any character pages for Tenjho tenge. especially since the series is awesome, particularly the manga, and it has some of the coolest characters in anime in my opinion. took it upon myself to fix that...someone else feel free to do some too, i'm lazy and i'm only gonna do characters i like.

--grimjaw 04:25, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Ok, I guess Aya and Emi aren't your favorite so I guess I'll start a sandbox on them. If anyone would like to help please help. Masterbeef66 05:50, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

What happened to the Character Page that the main article linked to? Nevermind, I fixed it. Offkorn 10:48, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

added Aya finally. --Grimjaw 05:23, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

i was thinking and i don't know who i'll do next, probably souhaku, tetsuhito, or ishyumi. as i've written every single character article i guess i'm the only one who's gonna do any of it so i better get to it lol. considering how long it took me to to aya, it may be another 50 years before i make more guys...again feel free to help lol. --Grimjaw 06:16, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

created souhaku, its probably gonna get rated start class tho. --Grimjaw 05:54, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

I added a template at the bottom of each character page to make navigation easier. half the names on it don't have articles yet but i'll try to do em eventually. unless someone has a reason to not make an article for the characters in each major group. i may even do some minor or supporting characters too. most will be put off at least till the end of spring break. --Grimjaw 04:02, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

About?

fixed that problem lol --grimjaw 04:22, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

NO MANGA INFORMATION

The article just say ¨currently running in Ultra Jump¨ (???) C´MON , at least tell us how many issues have been published(tankobon?). Im not talking about the infamous american versions by DC.

--LOPETEGO

Just how bad are the CMX edits? The FIGHT CMX page hasn't been updated since June of '06, and from what I gathered there, it seems to mainly be done to edit out language and sexuality. I know the current TenTen manga volumber # is higher than 5, and I imagine people who are just now finishing the anime are wanting to get into manga as well, but without sacrificing the beloved fight scenes that make this series pure eye candy. I'm sure those of us who can't read the original work would love a little more explanation on the severity of the CMX edits. - BasilAcid

Anime Episodes

Hey there. I'm a little confused regarding the anime episodes' list. Though it's been said that there are 26 episodes, as far as I know there are only 24 - plus 2 OVAs, as has been stated at the beginning of the article. Can anyone explain me that a little better? Is that correct? - Haggen Kennedy 15:42, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

yeah man, the 2 ovas where 30 minutes long and pickedup where the anime left off...they're counting em as episodes. cuz they really are just a continuation of the anime, it probably should be more specific but it doesn't really matter. --grimjaw 04:23, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Plot summary

It's completely unorganized and is just a pain to read, so I put cleanup. I would like to do away with it and instead summarize the volumes and/or DVDs. WhisperToMe 01:00, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

I agree. There really should be two different articles. One for the manga, and another for the anime.68.165.229.42 04:41, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Agreed. Besides, the article uses loaded language.64.121.35.146 07:09, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Moved the plot summary to its own page to make the main page more streamlined. The Plot summary page still needs lots of work. (Duane543 16:01, 16 January 2007 (UTC))

New Season / 'OVA's ?

I havent heard anything about it in awhile, but are there any plans to finish the anime series? --SephirothYuyX 17:45, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't mind if they will finish the series. I just wonder if they have the adult version of it... it's gonna be exciting....(Chimerarc —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 17:40, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Teen to 16+

Did CMX change their editting style when they changed the rating, or where they just trying to be more precise?Anthonzi 15:49, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

They lightened up on the editing quite a bit it seems starting with Volume 11. I skimmed through Volumes 11 and 12 and noticed all of fanservice intact, including some brief nudity. They may have started to grow some balls.

don't suppose u know if they plan to re-release the old stuff with less edits? --Grimjaw 07:28, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Alot of manga from publishers have re-prints, with things such as dialogue and other fixes made to them, so there is a chance they may be re-released with less edits.

Wikipedia Picture

i think the picture for this page should at least include the major characters in this anime; so, i'm changing it.--Kid1412 02:38, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Characters

I can't stand it when they go to present I like the flashback arc everyone was so young and full of life, now they are all old and serious. My friends and I can't really stand the present characters. But how does anyone else feel? I wanna hear your opinions.--Cojin 02:21, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

shin was a badass and i really liked him, but i like the present more. Bunshichi is still awesome, kagesada is ten thousand times cooler, masataka is a badass, mouki was cool, and i think the story is more interesting (not that the flashback was boring). the present was gay at first, but it got cool after the anime cut off. --Grimjaw 02:27, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Masataka is cool but he's just to plain I mean Mitsuomi has freakin green hair and his is just plain looking. It's the same with Aya,oh of course Bunshichi will always be awesome but they need to show how strong he got.Yeah Kagesada is way more cool now he shou--Cojin 03:20, 28 March 2007 (UTC)ld of been in that pic instead of taking it.

Releases

The volume section of the infobox; does it go by complete volume or current volume? If it is current then it should be changed to 17. (Duane543 03:29, 30 March 2007 (UTC))

it says 16 vol. containing 99 of 103 released...so i assume its by complete. --Grimjaw 03:37, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Question

Someone put this in statement in the Tetsuhito Kagiroi trivia section; "The 14th tankobuken has Aya able to activate Reiki through a ladybug that is on Reiki which Maya then places inside her shirt. This is not illustrated in the monthly Ultra Jump version." I was just wondering if someone can verify the statement. (Duane543 22:44, 5 April 2007 (UTC))

it's been about 10 days according to the the timestamp...i'm taking it out. if you can verify it feel free to put it back with a comment here or a citation. --Grimjaw 20:22, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

rikudou

i noticed it too...but wtf was with rikudou being a kabane branch? i'm guessing that was a mistranslations or something? --Grimjaw 03:06, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

They are two different families since they use different kanji. Their might be a mistake in the translation. It also might not be because Aya (modern and past) go by the same name, but also use different kanji. (Duane543 04:26, 1 May 2007 (UTC))

Continuation of the anime?

Does anyone know if there's any word of the continuation of the anime? I mean, will it ever continue after what's been made so far? Why did they stop making the anime in the first place?
I can't find the answers to any of these questions, so if anyone else can I'd love to know. --MooNFisH 10:15, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Im hoping so but they probably won't cause not a lot of people know abot Tenjo Tenge.--Cojin 04:54, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

most likely not. some stuff in the ova's potentially messed up the plot. i hear it might be coming to CN, if so better hope is popular enough to spur a new season. --Grimjaw 06:15, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

I can't understand why the series just ends with them saying everything will get wrapped up in 'the tournament' and then the whole series is over. WTF? We didn't buy the 'perfect' version just to have an incomplete series. I wish they'd have advertised it as such. --Shink X

Anyone hear about the movie that was suppose to be made to continue the story where the ova's left off? IP 68.185.68.124 19:11, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Wani

Someone needs to cite where it states that the Wani family specialize in naval affairs. I know that the head of family during the Feudal Japan Arc was fond of ships, but this could be the characters own personal interest and not the families as a whole. If their are not explanations to this message in the next few weeks, I will assume that the statement is original research and it will be deleted. (Duane543 15:33, 23 June 2007 (UTC))

Deleted the statement until it can be cited. (Duane543 23:44, 2 July 2007 (UTC))

im not sure how to go about, but i just wanted to add to the article the that stories and characters have been taken from this in order to make the very wonderfully coriagraphed SHINOBI Film follow this link to see review http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475723/. —Preceding unsigned comment added by THaqq (talkcontribs) 01:15, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

ookami family faggotry

just so its clear...i've seen the raws for 108 and 109 and read the translations. 110 has the chapter cover out, and the raw should be out soon. nothing released has the ookami family in it...either ur psychic and knew what would be in 110 over a month before its release, u have too much free time, or ur horribly misinformed. regardless, hold back on ur psychic skills for now...at least till we normals can verify ur amazing powers. --Grimjaw (talk) 22:20, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

GA review

Hello, and please find below my comments relating to the current application for this article to be promoted to good article status.

  • "... possessing supernatural abilities..." such as?
Done (Duane543 (talk) 02:15, 13 January 2008 (UTC))
  • Image:Tenjhotengeost1.jpg needs fair use rationale to be properly completed (add the article name) and would probably look better on the right hand side of the article.
Done (Duane543 (talk) 23:34, 12 January 2008 (UTC))
  • None of the characters have any citations to back up the synopses provided in the Characters section.
Done (Duane543 (talk) 18:08, 14 January 2008 (UTC))
  • "His power of the Dragon's Eye was awaken when..." - not English. And what is meant by the power of the Dragon's Eye? Could use an explanation.
Fixed (Duane543 (talk) 02:53, 15 January 2008 (UTC))
  • "...he was socially rejected most of his life." - "...he has been socially rejected..." perhaps?
Reworded (Duane543 (talk) 03:55, 13 January 2008 (UTC))
  • "...fold her fat of her overweight body..." - not particularly good English.
Fixed (Duane543 (talk) 19:49, 13 January 2008 (UTC))
  • Media-Anime section lacks citations (e.g. dates of release, toning down of sex themes). Similarly, while short, the music section could use a citation or two.
Done (Duane543 (talk) 22:01, 13 January 2008 (UTC))
  • "wonton sex" is this "wanton sex" or "dumpling sex"?
Fixed (Duane543 (talk) 17:50, 13 January 2008 (UTC))
  • "ludicrously curvy" - bit POV - unless it's a quotation. Stick to encyclopedic terms.
This line is a paraphrase. The original line is: "The same might be said of the characters: even though all the women are impossibly curvy and all the men impossibly buff, the personalities come through in their distinctive features and make them easy to tell apart." Thus the reason that I have a citation at the end of the sentence. Do you want a direct quote? I think ludicrously sounds better then impossibly. (Duane543 (talk) 17:50, 13 January 2008 (UTC))
Hmm, well I'm not too keen on the paraphrase, I'd use impossibly curvy and put it in quotes if it were me. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:58, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Fixed (Duane543 (talk) 16:09, 15 January 2008 (UTC))
  • "audio for the anime was done in stereo; this may disappoint some because there is not a 5.1 audio option."
    • "was done".. yuck.
Remove the sentence because it did not fit with the rest of the paragraph and it did not add much. (Duane543 (talk) 03:33, 15 January 2008 (UTC))
    • sounds like a review. In fact, quite a bit of this section reads like a review rather than an encyclopaedic article (another example: "...some may find the various explicit sex and nudity scenes disturbing...."
Tried to make it more encyclopedic. (Duane543 (talk) 03:33, 15 January 2008 (UTC))
  • "Overall, the anime is considered to be above average, but suffers from a lack of a good ending." - no citation for these claims.
Cited (Duane543 (talk) 23:05, 14 January 2008 (UTC))
  • "On the heels the controversy, " - perhaps just "Immediately following the controversy..."?
Fixed (Duane543 (talk) 03:55, 13 January 2008 (UTC))

So, a little bit of work but in general a well written article. Please let me know when you'd like a re-review. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to discuss the comments I've made further. All the best. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:35, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Note: After the preceding post was written, the article finally achieved "Good Article" status. :) --GentlemanGhost (talk) 04:36, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Episodes summary

I need help filling in the summary section for the new List of Tenjho Tenge episodes article. I summaries should be somewhat short and not overly detailed. (Duane543 (talk) 20:19, 26 November 2007 (UTC))

Title

Is the English translation of the title an official translation or a fan interpretation? - perfectblue (talk) 19:40, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

It is the title used by CMX, which is the licenser for the North American releases. (Duane543 (talk) 05:50, 3 February 2008 (UTC))

Need more information on the manga

I don't see any article regarding on the manga volumes/chapters and cover images.

Any one interested in this?

Tenjho / Tenjou

The article does not explain why Tenjho is chosen over Tenjou. I think that should be included either in the article, or in the talk page to avoid it being introduced. Mostly because the majority of other online communities seem to be using Tenjou (then again, you don't care about fansubs and related fanbased pages right?) --MooNFisH (talk) 18:09, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Template merge

Would there be any opposition to my merging {{Tenjho Tenge Characters}} into {{Tenjho Tenge}}? Refer to {{Sailor Moon}} for the envisaged format, using the current groupings, of course. This would be part of my administrative cleanup for Wikipedia:WikiProject Anime and manga/Cleanup task force. G.A.S 14:54, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Go right ahead. (Duane543 (talk) 17:33, 10 July 2008 (UTC))
checkY Done. I have updated all of the articles to use {{Tenjho Tenge}}, and the other has now been marked for deletion as it is not in use anymore. G.A.S 05:35, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Points for improvement

I was browsing through the Tenjo Tenge articles and I noticed several points that could, or in some cases need to be, improved.

First, the lead section of the main article (this one) is currently under-detailed and has some poor grammar. Normally wouldn't be a pressing problem, but since Tenjo Tenge is a GA-class article it should be improved to ensure that nobody delists it.

Second, there are currently articles on a number of very marginal characters from Tenjo Tenge. For instance, Noriko Shindayuu Inue and Tsutomu Ryuuzaki are blatant WP:AFD magnets. These should probably be merged to the character list page. If this causes problems with page length for List of Tenjho Tenge characters, then splitting the list up into protagonist/antagonist factions is probably in order.

Third --and this should help with concerns that the merging of the character articles will hurt the understandability of the rather convoluted plot-- a List of Tenjho Tenge chapters should be created which covers the volumes of the manga. (Model pages for this would be List of Claymore chapters and the Naruto chapter lists.)

No particular hurry, except on the first one, but please keep these in mind. Thank you. --erachima talk 07:02, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

If you see poor grammar, be bold and fix it. You also have to be more specific in what you think in the lead needs to be expanded. Some examples of manga or anime articles that have good leads would help. (Duane543 (talk) 00:30, 25 September 2008 (UTC))
I know, I know. I'm mostly focusing on a GA push on another article right now though, so my attention's elsewhere. As for examples of pages with good lead sections, a commonly cited example (though one I don't necessarily agree with, as I think it delves into excess minutia) is Tokyo Mew Mew. --erachima talk 00:35, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
I looked a Tokyo Mew Mew lead and I don't like how the editors did it. It is like you said, it is excessive. (Duane543 (talk) 22:41, 29 September 2008 (UTC))
