Scientific proven hope came from French blue[edit]

The theory that the hope diamond was cut from the French blue was not "proven". The evidence from the recently found lead casting does not definitively prove anything, only that the hope could have been cut from the French blue based on dimensions. The incredible rarity of diamonds in the size, color, and clarity lends weight to this theory but falls short of scientific proof. Épargnez le visage (talk) 15:43, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

visual look[edit]

The cut form of this gem had a distinct look, it came with a star shaped ‘window’ that, rather than internally reflecting light, let light through it, de-emphasizing the blue hue of the diamond, but only for the window itself. The stone was then set with a gold backing, which provided for a gold shaped start on a blue background, not unlike what is portrayed here: http://mineralsciences.si.edu/collections/hope/timeline.htm#!1669 you may need to verify this, but I do believe that held symbolic significance with the king... 75.166.187.103 (talk) 08:15, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
