Merge proposal[edit]

This page clashes with information given in Tara Shire Council; e.g. link to LGA website is given on town page but not on LGA page which only links Queensland website. They should either be harmonized or perhaps merged unless WikiProject Australian places has separate articles for every name town in every LGA in Australia. (By that I mean a town that gives LGA its name --- here Tara.) Iph 12:21, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The link to the LGA website on the Tara Shire Council page is in the infobox. There is no set guideline that I know that says that every LGA must have a separate article from its namesake town, but in practice most do. In general I support this as they are two distinct entities, one is an urban locality, the other is an administrative district. In Tara's case, the LGA covers an area of 11,680 km² and at least two other towns, Moonie, Queensland and The Gums, Queensland (although calling Moonie a town may be generous!).

However, this may all be academic as following the Local Government Reform Commission report, Tara Shire Council will be abolished and the area included in the new Dalby Regional Council next year! -- Mattinbgn\^talk 12:39, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
