BGW connection[edit]

I heard from a Texas-based sound company owner that BGW Systems was influential in bringing the Tannoy brand to the United States. Any references to support this observation? Binksternet (talk) 05:08, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Does anybody think 'Alan Partridge' when they read this?? :D —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.168.88.50 (talk) 13:56, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Short page?[edit]

Given the amount of stuff about Acoustic Research, this seems a bit short. 51kwad (talk) 18:42, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, the article is quite thin, particularly regarding the history of the company. --Ef80 (talk) 21:56, 18 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Tannoy in modern usage as generic term for speakers[edit]

The article as of Sep 11th 2013 gives reference that the word tannoy is in common usage up until at least mid-2010 citing a bbc article which uses the word generically. Here is a more recent example: 14th January 2012 - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-16564553 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.159.237.218 (talk) 18:33, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Tannoy remains in common use in British English, referring to any form of public address system other than a performance PA. Usage doesn't seem to be declining though it can have a retro sound to it in some circumstances. --Ef80 (talk) 21:56, 18 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
2022 - Tannoy is used in Dailymail.co.uk meaning "PA system", "loudspeakers". So the word is still in use. "The airport so chaotic that PILOTS are now ranting to passengers about it: Furious Gatwick customers vent their fury after WizzAir captain lost his temper over the tannoy after 'SEVEN-hour' runway delay". Should this be included in References? Link captain lost his temper over the tannoy I had only ahazy clue to the meaning, so this article is really useful. --Janwikifoto (talk) 15:54, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Geographically wrong[edit]

The article says "The term "tannoy" is often used generically in colloquial English throughout the British Commonwealth".

Rubbish. I have never heard it used in Australia. And there is no source for the claim. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.209.5.49 (talk) 07:02, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Business aspects?[edit]

Is Tannoy a public or private companies? How many employees work there? What are the annual sales? 46.210.46.164 (talk) 17:12, 28 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
