Letters[edit]

My edit on the name İstanbul has been reverted with the satırıcal remark "since when do we choose Turkish spelling over English spelling" ? Well, it should be known that proper nouns are unalterable in any language provided Latin alphabet is used. See for example Hans Christian Ørsted, Timișoara, Hradec Králové and thousands of others. Are we sure that such letters as Ø, ș and é are in use in English alphabet ? Nedim Ardoğa (talk)

@Nedim Ardoğa: I never said that İ doesn't exist in Latin alphabet. My argument is that the spelling you are suggesting we should use is not the common spelling used by English sources. Examples you provided above are all Scandinavian. Another famous Scandinavian figure is Thor, who is a famous mythological figure. The original spelling of the name is "Þórr", but since "Thor" is more common in English, that's the way the article has been titled and that's how his name appears in English texts. The same can be said for Istanbul. The original spelling in Turkish is "İstanbul", but it is not common in English texts. Keivan.f^Talk 06:10, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
