Shabby Middle Class[edit]

"The novel centres around the (increasingly desperate and cruel) attempts of Patrick Standish, a 30 year old schoolmaster at the local grammar school, to seduce Jenny, against a backdrop of his skirmishes with his school authorities and with the shabby, suburban middle class milieu in which the novel is set."

Finest work?[edit]

"and is possibly his finest and most accomplished work" is the assertion of the contributor's point of view, and has no place in this article. It is also nonsense: this book is very far from being Amis's finest work - Lucky Jim, Ending Up, even One Fat Englishman are all superior. Brymor (talk) 20:06, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
