About to rewrite[edit]

For the time being I have taken out some Hawaiian references which were confusing in the midst of a nz article. I will rewrite this article soon and will consider what to do with related deities in other parts of Polynesia. Related - not identical as is sometimes assumed. Progenitor of Humankind?[edit]

Is it right to say that Tu is the progenitor of mankind? In at least some versions, this role is assumed by Tane Mahua (by Hineahuone and Hinetiitama). At the least some elaboration seems necessary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.155.141.65 (talk) 11:39, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is oral tradition; so both can be true, even without taking regional variation into account. Tu is considered a progenitor of humankind; but that doesnt rule out TM Kahuroa (talk) 03:21, 13 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
