editing this page[edit]

please dont edit this page if you are unfamiliar with such an event. A Sawp Meet is part of urban culture and just because you don't speak or write a certain way does not permit you to pronnounce this articl "un-encyclopediac" or whatever. ALl the words here are part of the Oxford dictionary so back off. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rightofcenter (talkcontribs) 15:00, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Stop being so territorial. It's unencyclopaedic because it's badly organised, badly integrated and contains innapropriate value judgements, not because people don't get it. -- Colm O'Brien 15:28, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Moved disambig to (disambig) name, made primary a redirect to Flea market, the apparent closest existing page on primary topic. Editors are free to write an actual Swap meet article more narowly focused and distinguished from flea market. DMacks (talk) 17:38, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Swap meetSwap meet (disambiguation) — Most links (and probably most users, certainly including me) expect "Swap meet" to redirect to Flea market. The other links in this dab page (the song by Nirvana and the game on The Price Is Right) should be on a separate dab page. Currently, "Swap meet (disambiguation)" redirects to "Flea market" (!), and so I can't sort this out myself. I doubt anyone will put forward a serious objection, given what links to Swap meet. See also Swap Meet (with a capital M), which maybe should redirect to the dab page, since it will likely refer one of the other meanings. leevclarke (talk) 02:05, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose - To me, a swap meet is not a flea market. It resembles a flea market in that the goods may be second-hand, but it differs from a flea market in one very important way: the goods are limited in kind to a specific market. Examples are amateur radio swap meets and equestrian swap meets (these often called tack swaps). At swap meets, unlike flea markets, there is little or no distinction between vendors and buyers. I think Swap meet should be expanded into an article and the dab page should be Swap Meet (note the capital M). --Una Smith (talk) 04:08, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
