It Should NOT be merged with Suzuki Escudo, (Chevy Tracker)

I AM TOTALLY AGAINST MERGING ARTICLES!

Merging escudo/sidekick/tracker[edit]

The articles should be merged because they are all about the same vehicle marketed in different countries or by different companies. I also STRONGLY disagree Suzuki Escudo & Suzuki Grand Vitara should not be merged. There are many differences between the two cars. They are even classified as seperate vehicles.~Hondasaregood 15:14, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i disagree!!!!

I definitely think these articles should remain separate. The Chevrolet/Geo trackers are completely different vehicles from the suzuki escudo, and should be kept separate.

Good! Even tho the two makes are sometimes produced in the same factory, the dealer/service networks and parts manuals are completely different 17:35, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

The suzuki sidekick is the greatest thing ever, and it would be a disgrace to put it on the same page as those other pieces of crap

Merging Tracker with Suzuki escudo[edit]

I do think the tracker article should merge with Suzuki Escudo because they are the same vehicle, mechanically. The Tracker is only a rebadged Escudo, and made by Suzuki. I agree this page should be merged.

I do not think this is true. The Jimny Sierra (what the SJ413/Samurai is known as in Japan) continued production until 1998, when it was replaced by what was sold in export markets as the Jimny (Jimny Wide in Japan). --Zilog Jones (talk) 14:01, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Error in description[edit]

Suzuki EscudoSuzuki Vitara – Four generations of this model have worn various badges worldvide, but the one most consistently applied across English-speaking markets has been (and currently is) "Vitara" (UK;Australia;Vitara Brezza in India). As far as I see, the "Escudo" badge is only applied in Japan, not in any other English-speaking country (compare similar example about Mazda AxelaMazda3 in WP:CARNAMES). A possible exception could be New Zealand for the early models, but the last two versions are called Vitara and Grand Vitara even there. Early generations were called "Sidekick" in the U.S, but the 2nd and the 3rd were "(Grand) Vitara" (Suzuki withdrew from the North American market in 2012).   • Oppose: under the WP:CARNAMES guidelines, Escudo is the correct title for this page. The guideline is fairly clear: "Automobile articles are titled with the model name used in the subject vehicle's home market [i.e. Japan for the Suzuki Escudo], unless a single name other than the home-market name is used in English-speaking markets, and the home market is not English-speaking. In such cases, the article shall be titled with the model name used in English-speaking markets." There is not a single or overwhelming name used in English-speaking markets. In fact, the only name that has actually been used on each generation is Escudo. For two generations, the Vitara was sold as the "Grand Vitara" only.     First, I acknowledge the guideline, but it is supposed to be just a guideline, not a policy (WP:COMMONNAME and WP:NAMECHANGES are policies). Second, I assert there is an "overwhelming" (if not "single") name used in English-speaking countries, and it is "Vitara". Apart from the short-lived and almost-forgotten "Sidekick", all other models were named "Vitara" or "Grand Vitara" in most English-speaking markets. "Grand Vitara" is certainly just a variation on "Vitara", not a completely different brand – even while it was actual, the badge [3] was styled with smaller "Grand" above larger "Vitara". Erroneous GM Theta platform similarities claim[edit]

There are numerous claims in this article- all without providing any citations that the third generation Grand Vitara is somehow related to GM's Theta platform.

The GM Theta platform was first introduced for the 2002 model year as the Saturn Vue. I cannot find and sources from GM, Suzuki nor the automotive media stating that these two shared any co-development nor suspension components.

A cursory image search on Google would show that the front and rear suspension components, unibody chassis, and front and rear sub-frames are all significantly different; besides the fact that one is FWD and the other is RWD based. Absolutely nothing is shared.

This incorrect information has persisted in the article for several years and needs to be removed.

Conflict with GM Theta platform article[edit]

While the Grand Vitara is clearly not a Theta platform, and the general perception of a shared platform may result from confusion with the XL7, the statement now in this article that the "the two are completely unrelated and were developed separately by GM and Suzuki and share no components" conflicts directly with the Wikipedia article for the GM Theta platform, which refers specifically to shared components.

In the excellent research by the anonymous Talk contributor above, the unibody images show that the Vue and Grand Vitara structures are very similar at least in the rear, although the illustrations use different angles of view and different highlighting (the Grand Vitara image highlights more of the crossmembers) which exaggerate the differences. On the other hand, the rear suspensions are substantially different, supporting the suggestion that there are no shared components. brian|bp 17:04, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

CAMI plant reference[edit]
