Fair use rationale for Image:Beach Boys - Surfin'.jpg[edit]

Image:Beach Boys - Surfin'.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:27, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why on earth was the image deleted? It was just a photo taken (by someone other than me) of the actual 45? I don't see how that can't be used? It's not like it's actual cover art where somebody has gone to the effort to make the picture sleeve look nice and pretty.Sahafan (talk) 09:30, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Producers[edit]

I was wondering if someone could help me out. The Wikipedia page that has the complete list of songs by the Beach Boys says the producer of "Surfin'" is Nick Venet. This page, however, says it's Hite Morgan. Anybody know for sure? Bri4daz (talk) 19:23, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As a Capitol staff producer and A&R man, there's no way Nik Venet would have produced "Surfin'" for an independent label.Andrew G. Doe (talk) 12:54, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

reference to Surfer's Stomp[edit]

I don't know if this would be considered trivia, but "Surfin'" lyrics include:

And when the surf is down, to take its place,

We'll do the surfers stomp, it's the latest dance craze.

Notice the instrumental "Surfer's Stomp" by the Marketts; it was pretty much concurrent with this ("Surfin'") song. But Surfer's Stomp fell into obscurity(?), and I had to arrange an excerpt from memory and put it on a web site. Later, when I identified Surfer's Stomp, I arranged a full version for the same web site, but my earlier arrangement remains there when something like this happens.

Excessive quotes in the article[edit]

A flag on this page asked for editing out some of the excessive quotes. I have done so. Please check and see whether you feel I have cut too much. Hifrommike65 (talk) 21:52, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Factual accuracy[edit]

James Murphy's book goes into great detail about the myths regarding the song, particularly the recording dates and the apocryphal "Labor Day weekend" story. I began working on redoing this article but probably will never get around to completing what I started, as the story get too complicated and I don't have the necessary free time to invest. Hopefully someone reading this can pick up where I left off (see User:ILIL/sandbox/Surfin'). I can also lend a PDF of the book to anyone interested. ili (talk) 06:43, 16 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
