Notability in question[edit]

Other than being released later this month at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, there's nothing particularly notable about this film.

I did see one glimmer of hope that this "rises above the rest" - a blog recommended it as one of "Four Must-See Films for the 2021 Sundance Film Festival."[1] Even that blog doesn't provide significant coverage.

Everything else that came up in a "first 20 results" internet search was pretty much "we are listing it because it is one of the many films at Sundance" so I'm treating all of them collectively as a single source.

I'm deferring nominating it for deletion since its notability could easily change by the end of the month. I am going to tag it with {{notability}} though. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 🎄 20:52, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not that the film has been seen and been reviewed by at least a couple of reviewers, I'm no longer going to say it's "obviously" not notable, but it's also not clearly notable. I think that if, a year from now, this film has not been nominated for any major awards, has not been in wide release, and has not met any of the other "notability" criteria in WP:NFILM it would easily go down to defeat at WP:AFD. That said, this film was just aired at a major international film festival, which means things COULD change fast. So, I've tagged it for notability and won't send it to AFD for at least a week, probably not for several weeks. If it does go to AFD in the next few days, I predict a "no consensus to delete" outcome because I think other editors, like me, want to wait to see what happens.
I would encourage WP:New Page Patrolers to avoid "accepting" this page for at least 2 weeks, as doing so would make it "index-able" in major search engines. Obviously, if things change since Feb 1 and the film is clearly notable, please not only accept it, but remove the "notability" template. Or, if the page is nominated for deletion, "accept" it to get it out of the NPP queue - if my understanding is correct, pages nominated for deletion are not indexed by search engines anyway. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:58, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Undid redirect, discussion needed first[edit]

I undid the redirect to 2021 Sundance Film Festival#U.S. Dramatic Competition by Onel5969.[2]

Personally, I think it SHOULD be redirected, even in light of the new references and the removal of the {{notability}} template I added earlier (I still think the tag should have remained).

HOWEVER, the other films listed at the target redirect are almost all linked to articles. This includes other newly-released films.

Therefore, despite my personal agreement with Onel5969, I think the page should remain an article until either there is a discussion or there is a call for discussion without opposition (WP:NOQUORUM would be analogous to WP:PROD).

Onel5969, will you do the honors of starting a discussion? If you think it should be a "multi-film-article" discussion, maybe Talk:2021 Sundance Film Festival would be a better place to hold it. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 13:26, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why shouldn't there be a standalone article for this film? Reliable sources have reviewed this film. A quick look shows non-review coverage as well, like this. Seems to be notable. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 15:37, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Courtesy note[edit]

I have used this film as an example when asking a question about notability of films that have screened at a festival but are otherwise unreleased, see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Film § Notability of newly-released films screened at film festivals. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 22:30, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
