True that Soyo[edit]

True that Soyo Oka and Taro Bando are in the credits as Music Composers, but putting Koji Kondo in front like that makes it seem like he did the majority of the work, when in fact that was Soyo Oka. It'd be better to say that there were sequences and varients of Kondo's works included, but he had no direct involvement.

I dont see why the list of other games in the genre is in this article. That kind of thing surely belongs in a separate article? --Nathan 2006/05/05

The composers have been fixed. The characters have been fixed. I don't see a problem with listing other kart games, although the article's focus is on only one game.

I don't know why this article is tagged but I wanna know why. (Plainnym 23:18, 18 May 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Because it's been two months since this article was tagged. And 3 weeks since that question was asked without an answer, I'm untagging this article. Looks fine to me. -Anon (June 12, 2006 22:32 GMT)

On the european boxcover of this game a track is shown which is NOT in the game :) Any ideas?

Consider Your Edits Carefully[edit]

Over the last year, this article has gone through numerous revisions that have reduced people's hard work in adding information, charts, and links to nothing more than something you'd find on the first page of a manual or in a video game review. The goal of Wikipedia isn't to be as brief as possible; a dictionary entry covers that task. I suggest reverting all edits to the December 26, 2006 revision and then making minor changes from there. Remember, removing information without reason is akin to vandalism. Check out the Spanish page for what a detailed entry looks like: http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_Kart 72.129.80.89 11:07, 27 March 2007 (UTC)duffjr[reply]

There's a difference between encyclopedic detail, and game guide detail. The info removed all belongs in a FAQ. We don't need to know every specific stat, item, or track. Nemu 21:35, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
An encyclopedic entry should answer a person's general questions on the topic, from one who knows nothing of the game to one who has played it. Why should someone need to go to another site to find information about the game, with the exception of the details that have been linked at the bottom? 72.129.80.89 21:45, 27 March 2007 (UTC)duffjr[reply]
WP:NOT#IINFO, point four. Game guides are disallowed by an official policy of the site. The information in question is presented in guide form. A general description, which is already there, is enough. Nemu 21:51, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. Continued addition is disruption. --Deskana (talk) 23:18, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What about that trivia section that listed some history of the game and differences between the PAL and NTSC releases? The article stands as a stub now and needs to have more relevant information. I also think SMK codehackers' data (the links at the bottom) should be cited in scientifically proving that some characters' stats are the same as others. There are very few guides, if any, that have mentioned this.72.129.80.89 23:37, 27 March 2007 (UTC)duffjr[reply]
Anything in the trivia section must be sourced to be brought back. The data is, and will always be original research, which is not allowed. If you want the article to be larger, add relevant information. Nemu 00:00, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First Mario sports game? Not really.[edit]

Aside from being the first Mario Kart game, it is also the first Mario game of the sport genre.

First Mario sports game? I'm pretty sure NES Open Tournament Golf (Mario Open Golf in Japan) predates this. Jonny2x4 00:56, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I totally agree with you. I'm taking the liberty to remove the latter part of that sentence. Janx Spirit 15:53, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Game Data Bad for Article[edit]

The information provided in the "game data" section uploaded earlier today is really not appropriate for a Wikipedia article. Perhaps putting the information in a separate article would work, but even then, it is a highly specialize subject. Also, it's pretty unclear whether the person who posted the article is the person listed at the top of the section or whomever the poster was plagerizing from. It looks like some expertly found information; if the information could just be linked to, it might be valuable, but it certainly has no place in this article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.82.9.92 (talk) 03:03, 29 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

RTFM![edit]

The game's manual has a whole section on the differences between the characters! I don't know why people are debating something that was explained pretty much in-depth in the manual. I guess people don't read game manuals. DanielBrodzik 10:48, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I second that! A lot of "debating" is going on over subjects that don't need "debating". Besides, even if there is a valid debate, a Wikipedia article shouldn't have anything in it that doesn't have a source. 71.199.25.62 03:40, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The game's manual lists the simple character chart that was deleted on November 24, 2006, which should be restored. It tells nothing of the differences in handling, speed, and acceleration explained in the hexadecimal link. The debate led to a full analysis of the game's hexademical data. The debate is no longer saved, as Gamefaqs removed that topic three years ago. This issue needs to be addressed. Everything in the manual relating to gameplay and features should be summarized here with the exception of the controls/foax story.

shrinking mushroom?[edit]

I don't think the shrinking mushroom can be obtained by players.shouldn't it be under the CPU only items?

I'm a SMK veteran and have never picked up the shrinking mushroom as a player, so I agree that it should be under CPU only items. I'll change it, unless it's already been done. Modul8r 20:20, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Legacy section[edit]

I think that the mention of Super Mario Kart's influence on non-sporting Mario series games should remain in the section. One source specifically mentions how "in RPGs, sports, puzzle or party games, Mario continues to be pervasive" and how Super Mario Kart "paved the way for all the Mario spin-offs we see today, from Mario Paint to Mario Party" (emphasis added). I think this diversity is an important part of the legacy of the game and the non-sporting spin-offs have contributed to the total sales of the Mario franchise which are mentioned later in the article. Game engine[edit]

Why is Mode 7 listed as a game engine in the infobox? Isn't it just a graphics effect and not a separate game engine? --Mika1h (talk) 00:20, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the listing from the infobox. These two ([1],[2]) sources describe pretty well what Mode 7 is; I think it is more than just a graphical effect but I'm not sure if can be described as a game engine. The only other article I can find that lists it as such is F Zero. Guest9999 (talk) 01:04, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FA[edit]

Has anyone ever considered nominating this at FA? This a lot of useful content, appears to have very few notable issues at first glance, and has even been mentioned on the main page; I think this could easily pass FA, nbut I think I'd rather someone more involved in the article take it there. PCHS-NJROTC (Messages) 02:55, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, but I am definitely requesting assessment to A-class in WPVG. It looks very good. MuZemike 00:27, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What do the terms FA, A-class and WPVG mean? I’ve never heard any of them before. Grand Dizzy (talk) 19:49, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FA means Featured Article, A-class is a rating of how well the article is developed, WP:VG is a shortcut for the Video game Wikiproject. Hope that helps some. BOVINEBOY2008 22:36, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A-class assessment[edit]

Peer review on subjects[edit]

I currently nominated the article for peer review, so that I can nominate it for being a featured article sometime in the future. You are welcome to add fixing to the reviewing page. (well there has to be a Mario Kart series FA) CarterRodriguez (talk) 00:31, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong fact[edit]

D.Kong Jr. is actually D.Kong in other games. the 1984 Donkey Kong is the present Cranky Kong. Donkey Kong Jr. became Donkey Kong in newer games.i'll fix that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jct400thz (talkcontribs) 22:28, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Screenshot Image is too Small[edit]

This article could be improved by finding a larger dimension image for the gameplay screenshot when you click on it to make it larger. (Even if this was the original resolution size of image that the game created, TV's displayed it much larger, and being pixellated was the norm for the Nineties). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.206.158.10 (talk) 20:04, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
