GA review[edit]

GA review (see here for criteria)

A few prose tweaks and some explanations of terminology are the big issues, as well as a few more sentences in the lede

  1. It is reasonably well written.
    a (prose): b (MoS):
just a few tweaks on the prose and the lede
  2. It is factually accurate and verifiable.
a (references): b (citations to reliable sources): c (OR):
A couple of citations for some quotations
  3. It is broad in its coverage.
    a (major aspects): b (focused):
A few places where an explanation of terms would be helpful
  4. It follows the neutral point of view policy.
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. It is stable.
    No edit wars etc.:
  6. It is illustrated by images, where possible and appropriate.
a (images are tagged and non-free images have fair use rationales): b (appropriate use with suitable captions):
Logo needs a fair use rationale for the page, and I'm slightly concerned about the number of fair use images.
  7. Overall:
    Pass/Fail:

Details:

  • Lede could use a bit more information in it. Consider adding a bit more about the collection period and/or information on the other support provided by the organization.
  • A number of the paragraphs are short, only one, two or three sentences. Consider expanding a bit or merging them with other paragraphs to keep the prose from feeling choppy.
  • Being a yank, I don't know what an An Taoiseach is. Consider a quick explanation so that folks don't have to leave your article to figure out what the word is.
  • History section, first paragraph, the quotation "elegant buildings.." needs a citation on it. I assume that the two quotations at the end of the paragraph are from the same source, consider combining them and using ... in the middle. As it is now, it reads awkwardly.
  • As a pure formatting issue, the MOS frowns on putting two linked items next to each other, I'm not going to fail the article on it, but if you're heading towards FA with this, be aware of it.
  • Facilities section - what is sheltered housing?
  • Recognition section, what's the TD after Michael Martin mean?
  • I assume Br. means Brother, and that Br. Jerome was a monk? Might make that explicit.
  • Logo needs a specific fair use rationale for this page.
  • I am a bit concerned with the number of fair use images. While I won't fail the article on this, consider trying to find a couple of free images for the buildings at least. I'm no expert on fair use policy, so all I can say is that using fewer fair use images is always better.
  • I don't see a controversy section. Given the mission of the charity, I'm going to assume there aren't any controversies, and that if there were you'd have covered them. This isn't exactly the type of charity that attracts controversy after all.

I've put the article on hold for seven days to allow folks to address the issues I've brought up. Feel free to contact me on my talk page, or here with any concerns, and let me know one of those places when the issues have been addressed. If I may suggest that you strike out, check mark, or otherwise mark the items I've detailed, that will make it possible for me to see what's been addressed, and you can keep track of what's been done and what still needs to be worked on.Ealdgyth | Talk 16:30, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fixes[edit]

First of all, thank you for your thorough review of this article. I have begun by dealing with the basic, minor details, which I have also taken the liberty of marking above. Per the article history:
  • I have used Prime Minister of Ireland to introduce the term "An Taoiseach". In my experience, the Taoiseach is only rarely referred to by the former within Ireland, but I have seen it used in English and American newspapers (being a fairly accurate description of his office).
  • Sheltered housing is a concept which has its own article on Wikipedia, so only a link was necessary.
  • "TD" stands for "Teachta Dála" - a member of Dáil Éireann, the Irish Parliament. I have added a link should the reader require any further clarification.
  • Brother Jerome was not a monk per se, but he was a member of a religious order - the Presentation Brothers specifically. Again, I have added a link to make that clearer.
I will be moving onto the other issues in good time. --Editor of Podium 2008 (talk) 00:28, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Further issues (Revision history):
  • I have merged some of the shorter paragraphs.
  • The entire first paragraph of the history section is taken from the same source, but I have added the extra footnote per your request. --Editor of Podium 2008 (talk) 23:52, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have expanded the lede (Revision history) and rewritten a specific rationale for Image:SHARE-logo.png. The remaining issues are:
  • The minor Manual of Style points you mentioned.
  • Fair-use images. My long term aim for articles that I work on is to use free images, and in the future I should be able to replace the Day Care Centre image with something else.
  • Lastly, you are right in your assumptions; there are no controversies of which I am aware.
I think I have dealt with all the main points you have detailed, so feel free to re-read and assess the article. --Editor of Podium 2008 (talk) 01:09, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks great! Passing it now! Ealdgyth | Talk 02:07, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Free" Pictures[edit]

The launch of the 2009 SHARE collection is this evening, and will run up until Christmas, so now would be a good time to get "free" pictures to replace some of the "fair use" images (mainly that of the Preslink Choir). --Editor of Podium 2008 (talk) 14:24, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
