The Plan[edit]

See comment on Stream power page also! These two will need merging.

I don't have time to do it right now, but my plan for this page below the intro stub goes:

Derivation

(i.e., restatement of the Whipple Tucker 1999/2002 type)

Detachment and Transport limited erosion

(emph. you can do the same thing assuming transport capacity, rather than erosion, goes as shear stress/USP)

Tests of the stream power law

(Stock and Montgomery, Van der Beek and Bishop, and the rest... Emphasising that it's hard to tell the differences without tight constraint. Also emphasise importance of transient response)

Problems and criticisms
1. Tuning the equations

(freedom to adjust; hard to know ahead of time what the values should be in many cases)

2. The problem of steady state

(Need to look at transient response, as many formulations pass the steady state test. Also, fact many of scaling relations only established for St St, so may fail in transient conditions - use e.g. of channel width scaling)

3. Non-process based formulation

(It's only empirical, there's very little process-based information to be had. Discuss new family of models briefly: Chatantavet (sp.?) & Parker 2009; Sklar & Dietrich 2004)

I'm also going to cross link to this page more thoroughly on other pages. Thoughts welcome?

.....

Please distinguish between these terms: Unit Stream Power, Specific Stream Power, Mean Annual Stream Power, etc.
