Encyclopedic?[edit]

Really? Do we need a whole article about a single book? I suggest we merge this into the article on its author, Mary Roach. ~ Reaverdrop 07:35, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have already proposed on the Mary Roach page that we unmerge it. That is, we restore this article about the book. You say that such an article would not be "encyclopedic," but one could also say that the article on Mary Roach is not "encyclopedic" because it would not appear on any standard encyclopedia. However, the beauty of Wikipedia lies in its scope, so I see no reason we cannot have two articles. What precedent in the style guide can you cite? ~ JianLi 23:33, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed. If we can have articles about a film or even a single pop song, I see no reason why we cannot have articles about a single book, as long as the book in question is not self-published or published through a vanity press. Especially a notable book like this does deserve its own detailed article. A book's notability is not restricted to those so-called classics, like Alice in the Wonderland or Pride and Prejudice, but also those that exerted a significant influence in the academic world or that are given a bestseller status.

Having said that, this article does need some expansion badly. My suggestion is that we give a summary about each chapter. --BorgQueen 06:51, 10 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
