Merge

Someone please merge Duncan Thicket here. --meatclerk 11:16, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

No, there's the same amount of info for Thicket than there is for Paul Calf, so leave it as it is.

...Because Thicket and Calf are characters and alter-egos of Coogan I reckon they should both be merged into Coogan. Brg 05:03, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

someone should add the info about how may have supplied drugs to Owen Wilson. His denial is here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20502331/ Thefilmmaking 02:02, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Alfred Molina

Is it just me or does this guy look a lot like Alfred Molina (the stage actor who played Dr. Octavius in Spider-Man 2)? It's not encyclopediac - I was just wondering if anybody else noticed it too.203.131.167.26 03:25, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

I'm not an encyclopediac- I'm not afraid of any sort of printed text! The globetrotter 15:42, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
Maybe Jim Jarmusch thought the same thing when he wrote Coffee and Cigarettes [1]? Anyway, it's pure speculation. ~ NossB 20:17, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

Headshot seems like advert

Can anyone find a more appropriate headshot than this: [2]? The current one seems too much like an advert for The 1 Second Film. -Roger (talk) 23:45, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Jeremy Clarkson parodies - in the early 1990s ?

Didn't Coogan appear in a short-lived ( single season ? ) comedy series in the early 1990's - a comedy sketch show with an ensemble cast of "young up-and-coming performers" ? This was broadcast late night / early morning in the early days of 24-hour broadcasting in Britain.
Every ( ? ) edition featured a sketch with Coogan impersonating Jeremy Clarkson, playing in a children's playground, while reviewing some iconic vehicle from sci-fi. Scenes like sitting on the swings and announcing: "This week, I am test-driving... this TARDIS..." ( The Gallifreyan Gravity-Drive was a bit erratic, apparently. )
I seem to remember reviews of a TARDIS, an Angel Interceptor, and the Nostromo, among others.

The Dead Good Show (pilot)

There is no mention here or on IMDB of the Pilot he did with John Thomson and Caroline Aherne in 1993. It was a sketch show shown on Granada (ITV) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.253.58.160 (talk) 10:03, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

His love of cars

I feel I have to dispute the following paragraph: "A well noted car enthusiast, he has had a succession of Ferraris, but stopped buying them after realising that the depreciation and running costs were greater than hiring a private plane.[12] Coogan currently drives one of the final air-cooled Porsche 911 Carrera 4s.[11]

In an interview conducted on his official (I think) homepage ("http://www.coogans-run.co.uk/h/steve-coogan-newsitem.php?id=719) in 2008 he states:

What do people shout at you in the street these days: is it still "a-ha".

It's still "a-ha". Sometimes there are, unfortunately, a few meat heads who go 'I saw you on Top Gear.' The kind of people who I can frankly do without. Because I've done Top Gear about three times some people think that's what I do. I don't think cars are great. It's just a distraction for me. I do think the presenters on Top Gear are faintly embarrassing. I went on there one time and took the p*ss out of Jeremy Clarkson's clothes and none of the audience thought it was remotely funny. The audience were like 'what's wrong with the way he dresses; he's really cool.' So you're dealing with a different breed of people. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.116.68.225 (talk) 03:58, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

When did you move to Norway, Steve? Rodhullandemu 23:12, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Bounced back

"In 1997 he bounced back with the sitcom I'm Alan Partridge, which was followed by a second series in 2002" Although humerous "bounced back" here is obviously refering Alan partridge's failed autobiography in the second series of I'm Alan Partridge by the same name. This is therefore not acceptable in a encyclopedic context.

I suspect an ironic reference too as Coogan never did 'bounce back' did he? Certainly not emotionally and I think not in a career way either. Wonder how he feels about that?
What?--EchetusXe 23:04, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
The irony was pointed out in the episode. Then he went to the train station trying ro sell his book while wearing a Britney Spears type of a microphone.--85.164.223.109 (talk) 22:34, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Other characters

There should be more about Paul and Pauline Calf, who Coogan invented before Alan Partridge, and a bit about the failure of some of his recent stuff like Tony Ferrino and Dr Terrible (an unfortunately accurate name...) Lee M 02:11, 27 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Steve also appeared as one of the mutant animals in the 'Mutant' episode of The Mighty Boosh —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.24.245.46 (talk) 01:39, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Hacked by NOTW

Perhaps include more on his phone being hacked by Coulson, and being advised not to go to court over it , due to Coulson being 'untouchable' - particularly since the Government are removing Legal Aid funding, so many of the non-celebrity victims of hacking will not even be able to pursue the matter, even Millie Dowling's family.79.70.229.171 (talk) 21:45, 8 July 2011 (UTC)jtl21:45, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

Politics

On the commentary for Series 2 of I'm Alan Partridge, Coogan states that he is a socialist who enjoys paying taxes, whilst discussing the eponymous character's investigation by the Inland Revenue.

What he actually said was that he wasn't one of those people who on one hand complained that public services were terrible, but on the other hand objected to paying anything but the lowest possible taxes, to which he added that he was a socialist. He didn't say he "enjoyed paying taxes". — Preceding unsigned comment added by StanPomeray (talkcontribs) 11:20, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Is his middle name really 'Aha!'?

Really? Vranak (talk) 01:49, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Sources

Can we please be mindful of WP:BLPSOURCES on this article? We absolutely cannot use the Daily Mail or a gossip website to source contentious material on a living person. If it is worth being on the article, there will be better sources. If there are not it does not belong. --John (talk) 19:23, 19 August 2013 (UTC)

  • It's been raised at BLPN that there are non-tabloid sources for this, eg The New Yorker; The Guardian; Times Magazine. We still need consensus here that this material merits inclusion in the article. I take no view on this as I am acting as an admin here. --John (talk) 13:48, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Well now that other sources have been found, I don't see a problem in including it. Does anyone else? Thanks - Jak Fisher (talk)

Nobody has objected so I've added it> - Jak Fisher (talk)

Jak, can you show me where in the source you are getting 2004 from? I'm probably just missing it, but I can't find it there. CIreland (talk) 20:21, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, if it isn't mentioned there, it must be in the guardian source. I best at that as well. Thanks - Jak Fisher (talk)

Sorry. That date was in the daily mail interview. Removed it as such. - Jak Fisher (talk)

Would anybody be able to update the articles info box picture. I'd do it myself except I'm not familiar with the whole process. Thanks - Jak Fisher (talk) 23:59, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Radio-interview claims

Any radio-interview citation needs a timestamp for where the purported fact appears — especially in the 45-minute-long interview noted here, and especially when one source says he came from a family of seven children and another source, The Daily Telegraph, says six children. --Tenebrae (talk) 21:49, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Drugs & Owen Wilson Suicide attempt.

Numerous news reports exist within the UK mainstream press and internationally regarding Coogan's fierce drug habits and negative influence. Coogan has been accused of providing serious drugs to people just leaving rehab and was directly blamed by many reliable news outlets for Owen Wilson's relapse and suicide attempt.

How would it be best to write a paragraph regarding this important part of his recorded history?108.71.162.34 (talk) 03:44, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

Norwich

Does he really live in Norwich or is that a meta-Alan Partridge joke? Everything on the net say he lives in Sussex, near Brighton. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.81.244.250 (talk) 21:59, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

Self regarding arse

Apparently at least one critic considers Coogan to be "a self regarding arse". Which section would be the best place to include this? Citation: https://www.spectator.co.uk/2019/01/the-best-tribute-possible-to-the-greatest-comics-ever-stan-ollie-reviewed/ 49.151.117.14 (talk) 16:20, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Mark Mason of The Spectator says this: "It's a good job Steve Coogan is a brilliant actor: he conveys Stan’s likeability so well that for 97 minutes you forget what a self-regarding arse Coogan himself is in real life." So I'm not sure that comment could be added anywhere without the context of the rest of the sentence? Especially as Mason is not a notable critic. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:28, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Personal Life

Elle Basey is now engaged to Nathaniel Philip Rothschild, so the observation that "As of 2013, he and Basey are still together" needs to be updated. Sadiemonster (talk) 04:22, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

Only Goes Out With Fit Birds

Steve Cocaine Coogan is on record as saying that as a committed socialist he will only shag fit birds. Can anybody find the original source. I think it's the phone hacking Mirror. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.196.243.98 (talk) 11:12, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
