Further research[edit]

In case anyone is interested in researching the carving on this church inside and out, I have surveyed it this week, and the carving is almost certainly by Charles Mawer, because the quality is high enough to be his work, and it is in various styles which he used on occasions for which we have cited sources. Much of the work is in imitation of his father's (Robert Mawer d.1854) style, especially the angels, and Mawer frequently imitated his father. I have searched old newspapers for the name(s) of the stone carver(s) who executed the carving, but although there are several descriptions of the work around the time of renovation (1872-1877), the actual sculptors are not named. Whiteley the stonemason was the contractor (he was not a carver himself). Therefore, as yet, I have no citation for the name of the stone carver of Boston Spa parish church.
