It's clear that this section was written by a person or persons opposed to the naming pratice. References to 'marketing droids', bizarrely (unusally is a much better word choice and in any case a number of national teams have names), presumualy (perhaps say one reason may be...) and the general way the section has been written is non-encylopedic and also shows a strong POV bias Nil Einne 14:04, 10 January 2006 (UTC)

If you don't lke the word 'droid' please change it. That's the best bit of Wikpedia, if you can see a way to improve an article then just do it. However, be aware that many of the teams names *are* neologisms developed for marketing purposes in the last few years. Black Caps and Black Sticks and the Black Cocks proposal fit into this category. You may also be aware that the NZRU recently lost a case involving an attempt to register black shirts with white collars, and any silver fern design as its intellectual property. Having a name and identity which can be used to make money is important. On the other hand some of the names seem to have arisen as popular nicknames (eg Tall Blacks). As a general rule the All Silver schema generated names are relatively recent. Kiwis and SWANZ (women's soccer used to be organised independently of men's soccer, and SWANZ is an anagramatic acronym) have been in use for a long time.

American Football

Is it just me, or does someone find it bizarre that American Football is aparaently the most important sport in New Zealand? --Falcadore (talk) 02:31, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Most popular sport

I think the some stats are wrong here. Also many sources state that Football (that's soccer since you can't even get the name right) is the number 1 played kids sport in NZ. And please do not abuse me of being a vandal because I changed something. Or ewlse wikipedia will head in the direction of 'admins are the only ones who edit' CipherPixel (talk) 22:45, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Also, according to the Sparc source that is listed, Swimming is listed as a leisure activity. Following this trend, Exercising has to be listed with 25% participation rate for girls etc etc. What backs this up even further is that swimming does not even have an section on the page. Contradiction

If soccer is called soccer on this page (as I have been told too many times) because it's the number one name, why is Touch referred to as Touch Football? If anything it's called Touch Rugby, and thats beside the fact everyone just calls it Touch. CipherPixel (talk) 22:50, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Extreme Sports

I believe the article should include some mention of extreme sports in NZ, especially bungee jumping and A.J. Hackett, and the fact that Queenstown is a leading destination for adventure sports.Avman89 (talk) 02:30, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
