@AlphaBetaGamma, Exp691, North8000, Sushiya, and Meltdown627: I propose merging Deficit 83 Lines into Specified local lines. These appear to be WP:CONTENTFORKs and while "Deficit 83 Lines" is better sourced, the title appears to be a confusing translation and the content may provide more detail than necessary. Strong Oppose Deficit 83 lines are not the same thing as Specified local lines. Deficit 83 Lines were in 1968, while Specified local lines were in 1980. These two movements are not the same, and both movements having 83 railroad lines are simply a coincidence. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 02:01, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The prose is super-unclear about this! Is there a way to clarify that? Are we sure that "deficit" is the right English translation? Dclemens1971 (talk) 03:12, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The Japanese title is 赤字83線, which literally translates to "Deficit 83 Lines". What I'm trying to point out is that merging 2 different movements made over a decade apart is NOT a good idea.ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 05:49, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dclemens1971 Also, I didn't get any notifications about this, despite the fact that you used the Error in Template:Reply to: Username not given. template. (Found this through watchlist, since I watch all the pages and stuff I create because I missed an CFD without being able to object it before.) Are you sure the other people related are aware of this? @Exp691,@North8000,@Sushiya, and @Meltdown627, are you aware of this discussion? ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 09:54, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping. I don't have an opinion on this merge. I left a question at the other article during a preliminary NPP look essentially saying that more clarity is needed on what the article is about because even that was unclear. North8000 (talk) 12:21, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tip. I also have no opinion on this merge. Meltdown627 (talk) 22:23, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AlphaBetaGamma No idea. I used the appropriate ping template! As for the substance, if these are truly different subjects then I don't want to merge them. I don't read Japanese, so I was trying to figure out what these were talking about in translation and the limited English sources. Regardless, both of them need work to describe accurately what happened and situate them in the context of each other and Japanese transportation development. I did attempt to reformat specified local lines article into one like in Decifit 83 Lines, but rethought of it since I wasn't able to get my hands on the main source which Exp691 used to cite half of the list. I understand I was being extremely unclear with the article subject. Thought keeping the lead nice and short was important. ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 15:13, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to wait for Exp, Sushiya, and Meltdown to respond and if nobody else responds in the next 6 days I'm going to close it as "No merge needed". ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 15:14, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I won't object to removing the merge tag sooner. I will add cleanup/context tags if others aren't able to get the articles worked on sooner. Dclemens1971 (talk) 15:34, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree to the removal of the merge tag. Thank you for the notification. Sushiya (talk) 08:59, 25 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
