No not post song lyrics on Wikipedia[edit]

Unless the song is in the public domain, or the copyright holder agrees to license the song lyrics under the GFDL or similar... Wikipedia cannot accept song lyrics. Small snippets of lyrics (a line or two) used to illustrate a point fall under fair use and are OK, but whole songs are definitely not. --EngineerScotty 04:15, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:F80910a2u80.jpg[edit]

Image:F80910a2u80.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:21, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:GarbageSpecial01.jpg[edit]

The image Image:GarbageSpecial01.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --23:48, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use of alternate cover and video screenshot[edit]

Since the images, File:GarbageSpecialUSA8070CDP.jpg and File:GarbageSpecialVideoScreenStill.jpg, have removed by one editor citing WP:NFC, without saying how these images specifically violate it, I am starting a discussion here so that the images are not deleted simply for being orphaned.

The current consensus for alternate covers in infoboxes, per Template:Infobox album#Template:Extra album cover that can then be tied to Template:Infobox single, are that they pass WP:NFCC if the alternate cover is "significantly different from the original and is widely distributed and/or replaces the original has generally been held to pass this criterion." This alternate cover is significantly different from the original cover and is widely released in the United States and therefore passes the criterion. I am leaving off the CD2 single and 3" CD covers because while they are not significantly different from the original.

The screenshot is from an award-winning video that is covered with paragraphs of critical commentary and has ten reliable sources. With all of these factors, the image passes the points of WP:NFCC. Aspects (talk) 18:23, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 24 February 2019[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Consensus to move. Consensus is SONGDAB trumps INCDAB here. (non-admin closure) В²C 05:18, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Special (Garbage song)Special (song) – (Contested technical request) Unnecessary disambiguation per WP:SONGDAB; although a few redirects exist, there are no other articles for songs named "Special". PC78 (talk) 10:53, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - WP:SONGDAB is in direct opposition to WP:INCDAB and standard practice in every other topic area. Since the other songs are appropriate WP:DABMENTIONs, the disambiguator used should not itself become ambiguous. The current arrangement leads to no confusion, and is likely the most reliable long-term title for this article. -- Netoholic @ 13:10, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    • Not really. WP:INCDAB does not advise to disambiguate with other things that do not have articles, nor is it standard practice to do so. If other songs do not have or are not likely to have an article then there is no need nor any requirement to take them into consideration. PC78 (talk) 14:03, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
      • The very first line of WP:Disambiguation says Disambiguation in Wikipedia is the process of resolving conflicts that arise when a potential article title is ambiguous, most often because it refers to more than one subject covered by Wikipedia. "Covered by Wikipedia" is not limited to only those topics which have a standalone article. If one could reasonably make a redirect to which Special (song) could equally apply (for example, Special (Mew song) and Special (Stephen Lynch song)), then we should follow WP:INCDAB. -- Netoholic @ 15:40, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
        • If we follow such an interpretation to its inevitable conclusion, we would end up having to disambiguate most songs by their respective artist regardless of whether or not other articles exist. Hence WP:SONGDAB and the concencus that supports it, which should take priority here. PC78 (talk) 16:37, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. The other songs have no article, so the proposed title is policy appropriate. Nohomersryan (talk) 18:09, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per SONGDAB: "An RFC closed in June 2016 has established consensus that further disambiguation is only required when multiple songs or albums of the same name have articles" Lazz_R 23:13, 24 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment if this is moved, a hatnote will need to be added to point back to the dab page -- 70.51.201.106 (talk) 06:11, 26 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
