Per the deletion discussion, I have added a couple of cleanup templates. This talk section is for discussion of how the article could be improved.
At the moment, the article reads well if you are from a protestant tradition and familiar with systematic theology. However, this is an encylopaedia article designed for any reader, and so I think we need to re-evaluate audience, and consider the structure. Unrepresented in the article at this point are other Christian traditions, but also any criticism of the very possibility of the compatibility of sovereignty with a Christian God. For instance (taking one writer at random) Yuval Noah Harari argues in his book Homo Sapiens that the doctrine of the sovereignty of God is incompatible with a good God because of the problem of evil. He argues that the only solution is to say that God is sovereign and evil. Although there is no need to debate the issue here, the article needs to explain to a reader that such debate exists. A reader finding this article needs to understand what the doctrine is, the history of its development (perhaps take a look at J N D Kelly's Early Christian Doctrines for that), an overview of how it is understood in Christianity but also the criticisms or problems with the doctrine.
And all my suggestions above are mutable! I am not saying that is an exhaustive description of how the article should look - but again, we need to consider the point of view of the reader of the article and start there. -- Sirfurboy (talk) 10:56, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Replying to myself here. I took a look through Kelly's work and although sovereignty is mentioned a few times, it was not one of the burning issues he discusses, so we will have to look elsewhere for a source regarding the history. -- Sirfurboy (talk) 11:11, 22 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
At this point, this article describes roughly some views of the Protestant tradition. It has to be necessarily articulated with the views of the other Christian traditions, to name the most important ones: Roman Catholicism, Orthodox Church, etc. Please refer to WP:WEIGHT. ---Telikalive (talk) 10:12, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This chapter seems to be relevant but its content, at this point, only describes a Jewish point of view. Apophatic_theology#Judaism To be consistent with the topic indicated by its current title "Sovereignty of God in Christianity", this chapter has to provide a Christian point of view Apophatic_theology#Christianity.
