Hi. I wonder if there could be a link between this oath of allegiance (cf. President B. Obama, the last one in date) and an ancient middle-age tradition in Rennes, Brittany, France when the Duke of Brittany entered for the first time by the main door of the town,"la porte Mordelaise", pronouncing " et qu'ainsi Dieu me soit en aide !" e.g. exactly the same phrase???

Thank you for any contribution

In the U.S. presidential oath it states that all presidents since FDR have used the "so help me God" phrase in their swearing in. While this may be true, it was Calvin Coolidge who first used this phrase while being sworn in as president at his home in Northampton, Vermont after Warren Harding Died. I feel it does Coolidge an injustice not to include this fact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.155.8.6 (talk) 03:21, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
