PATH=MTA card?[edit]

Does anyone know if the SmartLink card will also be used on the NYC transit system, or is the MTA pursuing their own smart card? Right now, MTA is testing smart card system with a 6 month trial with Mastercard's Paypass. If both transit systems use the same card, it would be a lot more convenient as well as cost-efficient for riders to have only one unified card to be used in the NY-NJ metropolitan area. Yeah, I do hope they merge the smartcard system. But even if they don't, they can always make it intercompatible, just like ezpass.-- Nikopoley✪尼可波里 ✏Got Something on Ur Mind? 21:42, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

SmartLink program delayed[edit]

At a meeting on February 7, 2007 of the PATH riders council, it was announced that the distribution of the Senior SmartLink card previously slated for August 2006 and the October 2006 has commenced in February 2007. This is due to ongoing problems with the software package they purchased.

If all goes well then the full-roll out may happen sometime around June 2007.

They starting selling them Monday or Tues (2 or 3) July 2007 at WTC. Sold as 20 rides ($24) + $5 card = $29. Tvh2k 19:05, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for stating something mentioned in the article already. Now keep on the lookout for more info and especially any press releases-we can use those for refs. -Herenthere (Talk) 19:50, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Email from PATH[edit]

I sent an email to PATH with a couple of questions:

1) What is the maximum amount of value/trips that can be put on the card?

The response: "The maximum amount you can reload to a SmartLink Card is 140 Trips. You can load two 40 trips, two 20 trips, and two 10 trips. Which provide 140 Trips."

This equals $182 @ 1.30 per trip.

2) If someone has a card with trips on it, do they have to get a new card if they want to take advantage of the unlimited trip options?

The response: "When you add the unlimited pass the unlimited pass will take over. The trips do not expire so if your unlimited pass expires the trips will be available for use."
