Vulgar slang[edit]

Isn't "slash" also an impolite slang term for woman? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.100.128.97 (talk) 22:19, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's an impolite slang term for a part of female anatomy which is then used synecdochically for a woman as a hole. — LlywelynII 00:42, 20 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The usage of Slash (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) is under discussion, see talk:Slash (musician) -- 70.24.244.158 (talk) 05:35, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

To wit, User:GeicoHen led a short-lived attempt to make Saul Hudson the primary topic for Slash. Needless to say, it wasn't very successful. — LlywelynII 00:41, 20 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Default article[edit]

Since the most well-known meaning of Slash ist the punctuation, I suggest we make Slash (punctuation) the default article for this, and move the current page at Slash to Slash (disambiguation). Anybody disagree? Enobeno (talk) 21:00, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I support this. There's also some comments to this effect at the earlier discussion about the musician, as by Users:In ictu oculi, sche, Huwmanbeing, and 168.12.253.66. — LlywelynII 00:41, 20 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Lead with primary definitions[edit]

Seems strange to bury the principal meanings of the term under the heading "Other uses".

Recall that many users of English Wikipedia are not native English speakers. Also, most are presumably not looking for American pop culture personalities when they search for this term. -- ob C. alias ALAROB 16:26, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would support adding a common uses section to the lead as outlined by MOS:DABCOMMON. If we did, I think that Slash (musician) and Slash (punctuation) would be clear candidates. Not sure if anything else would qualify, although I'll try to pull some page view stats later. And I'm going to move the People category back to its alpha order position because quite frankly the musician is not THAT important. -- Fyrael (talk) 20:03, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea on page view stats. I suggest linking to Cutting as well, to help non-native speakers understand the implications of using Slash as a name. That way we won't leave people wondering why a rock guitarist named himself after a punctuation mark. — ob C. alias ALAROB 19:16, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I sort of forgot about this discussion, but here's the views for the top 5 topics: [1]. The musician and less so the punctuation are head and shoulders above all the others, with Cutting as a distant third. I understand the impulse to prioritize dictionary definitions, but DAB pages are not meant to be dictionary-like and often don't even cover all the dictionary meanings of a term. We include links to the wiktionary just for readers trying to (mis)use the page as a dictionary. The purpose of this page is to quickly and efficiently get readers to the article they were really seeking when they entered "Slash", and it seems like not very many users are seeking the Cutting article.
Edit: I really used the wrong chart there, as that one only goes back a month. Here's a better one for the past year: [2]. The conclusions are pretty much the same, although technically the album beats out Cutting. It's also worth noting that the Cutting article is barely more than a stub. -- Fyrael (talk) 16:26, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Slashing (crime) which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 23:05, 28 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
