Actually there's a difference between size consistency and strict separability, but unfortunately, no one can be told about what the difference is. You have to see it by yourself ;) Seriously... If someone can clarify this point it would be greatly appreciated. Size consistency should be related to the extent of the size of the system. If you have N non-interacting systems, the energy should be E*N. Strict separability is more related to the dissociative behavior of two interacting systems A and B which slowly become not interacting, leading to a final grand total energy of E_A + E_B. As you can see, the difference is more formal than concrete, but given that we are talking about theoretical chemistry, I think it should be good if someone but me can clarify. --munehiro 21:51, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]


I discussed the definition of size-consistency / size-extensivity in my thesis, giving many references.
