Date reference[edit]

Another one was photographed in Salem County, New Jersey, in autumn 1996. (emphasis added)

This date reference needs clarification. Seasons are inappropriate as date references per the Manual of Style and a more precise date reference needs to be provided here from primary references. In particular, this date reference is hard to disambiguate because it is discussing a bird that is native to Australia with sightings in the USA. Whose "autumn" is intended here? If the northern autumn, why must it be allowed to remain in an article with a general southern-hemisphere context? -- B.D.Mills (T, C) 12:33, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of the day

The Silver Gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae) is the most common gull seen in Australia. It is found throughout the continent, having adapted well to urban environments and thriving around shopping centres and garbage dumps. The Silver Gull should not be confused with the Herring Gull (Larus argentatus), which is called "silver gull" in many other languages.Photo: Fir0002
