Bachlam[edit]

Removed a comment in relation to the novel Shira:

(according to Amos Oz' autobiographical novel "A Tale of Love and Darkness" (2003) in this novel his granduncle, the jewish Horistoric Joseph Gedalja Klausner which house in Talpiot (Jerusalem) was in front of Agnon one's is characterized "in the incarnation of the foolish Professor Bachlam..." .)

Please feel free to put it back in, if you can clarify what this tells us about Agnon.

Fair use rationale for Image:Israel-50NewSheqalim-1998.jpg[edit]

Image:Israel-50NewSheqalim-1998.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Year of death[edit]

User:Groucho changed the year of birth from the (very commonly stated) 1888 to 1887 with the edit summary "Despite the official Nobel Prize information he was born in 1887 as clearly proven in Dan Laor's biography of 1998". However, in this 2009 article by Laor he writes "(1888-2007?)" with a question mark, indicating that he isn't sure. Laura's book has since appeared in English. Can someone check it, please? Oh, it gets interestinger and interestinger. Here is a review by Arnold Band of a 2008 book of Laor. I will quote:

... Laor waffles elegantly on the issue of Agnon’s true birth date, which I first discovered in 1963. He was born on August 8, 1887, which was the 18th of Av in the Jewish calendar, not the 9th of Av as Agnon claimed. That in the 1920s he fabricated the story that he was born on the day when, according to Jewish tradition, the Messiah would be born demands critical analysis, not casual dismissal. Certainly this false claim made by a man steeped in Jewish religious texts must have some implication for his self-image—and for his devoted readers who have always been charmed and intrigued by his unique stature as a fusion of the modern yet traditional Hebrew author.
It appears that in the late 1920s Agnon began to claim that he was born on Tisha be-Av, after his return to Jerusalem from Weimar Berlin in 1924.

To put this into perspective, the date previously given here (July 17, 1888) was 9 Av, 5648 whereas the date given here was 18 Av, 5647 as stated. See Tisha B'Av for the significance of the first date. I will change the date as well as the year. Zerotalk 11:48, 26 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
