Title is Shindand[edit]

This article was improvidently moved by User:Anoshirawan at 06:00, 26 August 2007. The former name of this district was Sabzwar. The current name is officially Shindand. RFC whether Sabzwar or Shindand is the appropriate designation[edit]

Statement in favor of Shindand District:

Shindand is the name used by the government of Afghanistan and the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. Nancy Hatch Dupree says in Chapter 15 of her 1971 book An Historical Guide To Afghanistan "the Green Place, which, now called Shindand (Pashto equivalent of Sabzwar)" so the name change is not recent. Shindand is the name currently used on US maps and by the US Geological Survey. --Bejnar (talk) 03:24, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can find no evidence for the use of Sabzwar anywhere outside of Wikipedia and its mirrors. Usage by Afghan gov[edit]

The Google search "Sabzwar site:gov.af" recovers 0 hits.
The Google search "Shindand site:gov.af" recovers 17 hits.
There appears to be no web usage of "Sabzwar" by the Afghan government. Does Anoshirawan have a citation of the use of the name "Sabzwar" by the Afghan government? --Bejnar (talk) 03:35, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnic makeup of district[edit]

Editors have made unsubstantiated edits regarding the ethnic makeup of the district.

Edits:
- edit by 61.5.146.126 on 30 April 2007 added "Pashtuns make up the majority of this district."
- edit by Anoshirawan on August 2007 changed this to "50% of the population is Tajik while the other 50% is Pashtun."
- request for citation for ethnic makeup was made at by Bejnar on 25 November 2007.
- no citation was provided, and the sentence was removed by Bejnar on 8 December 2007.
