Clarification needed[edit]

As a user I did not understand whether each layer (parietal and visceral) is made up of 2 layers (mesothelium and connective) or whether e.g. the parietal is made up of mesothelium and the visceral is made up of connective.

Someone should clarify the use of the word "layer". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.127.12.161 (talk) 08:27, 16 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Just came here for the same reason. I suppose yes, it is as you say, the whole membrane has the two layers or sides (epithelial/connective) and is folded back upon itself to create the two "layers" parietal/visceral. And I suppose in that folded situation, the epithelial, secretory side is facing itself, on the inside of the potential space, where the serum flows, while the fibrous side is facing out. That's what I gather.
So I think the article conflates these two distinctions. The heading suggests a section about parietal/visceral, but then the paragraph starts immediatelz with epithelial/connective... before turning back to parietal/visceral – all this without ever mentioning that these are two different pairs of shoes. Topics to expand upon[edit]

I will hopefully be covering these in the next couple of weeks -- Serephine / talk - 07:21, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • embryological origins
  • fuction of pleura in breathing
  • cell type of membrane (simple squamous)
  • structure (epithelia + connective tissue)

Ok finally finished - added and restructured, but kept most of what was already existing. -- Serephine / talk - 06:18, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Serosa is not to be confused with adventitia, a connective tissue layer which binds together structures rather than reducing friction between them."

Don't have time to read the 'guidelines' at the moment, to know quite how to say this, but suggest that the EXAMPLES section is highly redundant and probably should be eliminated. I spent the time I had available trying to edit that section before noticing that it was so redundant, but now wish I hadn't tried. Langing (talk) 18:06, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
