I was contacted by someone who works for WIKIPEDIA and ASKED if he could use the image and upload it to flicker. I told him that it was from old sheet music which I DO OWN. I also had sent him another image of Seger Ellis which I scanned from sheet music that I OWN.

I DID NOT PERSONALLY UPLOAD IT. I SUGGEST that YOU FIND OUT WHO UPLOADED the pic that works for Wikipedia. I TOLD HIM that I did not KNOW if it was copyright free. That would be up to Wikipedia to FIND OUT.

NOW when I do a search on GOOGLE for "confetta" THIS COMES UP and ANYONE searching "confetta" can SEE IT. I should not be slandered for something on WIKIPEDIA that I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR and I want it removed and set straight on-line asap.

Hey there! I wanted to contact you about your photograph:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/confetta/721351350/

I am a volunteer editor at Wikipedia and would like to see this picture appear in Seger's biography. The article appears here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seger_Ellis

I am wondering if you would consider changing the license to an "Attribution Creative Commons" or "Attribution-ShareAlike Creative Commons" so that it may be used on Wikipedia? These are the only two licenses Wikipedia currently will host from flickr.

The Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible nonprofit charity that hosts free encyclopedic content (in theory) for the world to use. All of its text is licensed under a GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to more or less do as they wish with it. Wikipedia is the 8th most frequented site on the world wide web.

Keeping with their philosophy of providing free content, the foundation seeks to host only images that mirror that philosophy. There are also legal issues to consider. Because Wikipedia cannot monitor who uses their content and for what purpose, they want to avoid being held liable in case someone does use an image for commercial purposes. Typically this would happen in the event that a website with ads hosts some Wikipedia content (such as an article with photographs). Additionally, someone publishing a book may also use a photograph. One thing that always remains true is attribution must be given: end users must always attribute credit to you as the photographer.

Directions for changing a license on Flickr:

To add a license for a specific picture, click the "Edit" link next to your current photo license (usually set to "All rights reserved") near the bottom of your photo page. On the "Set a license for this photo" page, select one of the Creative Commons licenses mentioned above.

If you are interested in releasing this, or a similar photograph, please let me know..

Kind regards, Adam
