German part of Schering

What happened to the German part of Schering (founded by Ernst Schering in 1851) during and after WWII? Were there any other parts elsewhere that were also severed from the German parent? Did Schering AG try to reposess the US division that was servered during the war? If not, why not? ... (I am sure that the answer to this specific questions raise follow-on questions...)

  • As far as I am aware, when the United States Government by order of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt stripped Schering AG of its U.S. subsidaries there was basically a decree that the company was to be permanently forfeited to prevent Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime from regaing control of any business based in the United States. There probably was never any effort on the part of Schering AG or Schering-Plough because the government never lifted the restriction that were originally imposed. Controversy

Cindery (talk · contribs) added a long section on controversy. It was duplicated verbatim over here, so I've removed it for now (see history if necessary).

It is unclear how much of this is a direct quote from the NY Times article, a link for which is not provided. There is a possibility long direct quotes constitute a copyright violation, so I urge Cindery to rephrase the material in his/her own words. JFW | T@lk 21:22, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Protection against seizures, founding fathers are rolling in grave

Did the USA pay compensation for the confiscation of Schering property during WWII? If not, should the WTO impose sanctions against USA to restore the rule of law? Private property stands above all values and is sancro-santc. 195.70.32.136 17:51, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Error

I'm pretty sure that Schering-Plough worked with Merck to market Vytorin which is a combination of Zetia (a Schering-Plough product) and Zocor (a Merck & Co. product)

Citations for consideration

  • The article says, "Schering-Plough is a full member of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA).[2]" Howwever, the footnote doesn't support this statement: it doesn't have a page 49, as cited. Fconaway (talk) 00:14, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

My birthcontrol.ca

So ive been doing some digging after seeing the same commercial over and over again suggesting that birthcontrol pills arent really needed. I went to the site (mybirthcontrol.ca) trying to find out who is finacning these and came up with an address which i traced to a Schering-Plough outlet in kirkland lake QC (contact info). The page appears to be a health page (mybirthcontrol.ca) but lists various products which in many ways seem to trace back to Schering-Plough products. It seems to be a bit misleading to what they are doing considering the commerical is played often in canada and makes the pill seem like it should be thrown away. If someone would like to find some more references for this that would be apprciated linking the two sites. Merck was acquired by Schering-Plough not the reverse

Technically speaking the InfoBox is incorrect, Schering-Plough is not a subsidary of Merck & Co. but the reverse, Schering-Plough acquired Merck and then changed their name from Schering-Plough to Merck & Co. Should a new article be created for the new company and the old articles moved or at least archived and no longer updated? Dancing is Forbidden (talk) 23:03, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
