Translations[edit]

I've removed the section Translations as it does not comply with WP:DICT. It could and probably should be readded to the article in the case it is reorganized in the same manner as alternative names in the article William (name) (i.e. just a list of different name variants without having them repeated). --Eleassar my talk 13:51, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Last name[edit]

I'm looking for someone with the last name of "/sɑrɑ/ (SAR-ah)". I know their first name, but don't know how their last is spelled, I was hoping to come here looking for possible last name variants, but I can't find anything about /sɑrɑ/ (SAR-ah) as a last name... >_> Tips? 129.107.81.12 (talk) 16:56, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sara spelling section should be removed[edit]

Both Sara and Sarah is pronounced /sɑrɑ/ (SAR-ah) in French, Italian and Dutch, and therofore it is wrong to say this has traditionally been pronounced that way in English. This statement doesn't cite references either. The pronunciation simply determined by which country you're in, the spelling has in most cases nothing to do with it. I'll try to remove the section. Photo[edit]

It was also pointed out that I should open it up for discussion. So if you don't have anything new or helpful to add please be on your way. Relevance is subjective and you don't get to decide what is relevant for everyone else. Lists of names removed[edit]

The section "List of people with the given name Sarah or Sara" was split to a separate article. After it was merged back as a section here, I deleted it because the decision at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of people with the given name Sarah or Sara was Delete, not Merge back.

The same goes for fictional characters, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fictional characters named Sarah or Sara.

The central rationale is that for a popular name, (i) a complete list would be enormous, and (ii) if we were to attempt a selective list, there is no basis for consensus on who should be included.

If anyone disagrees with these decisions, please lodge an appeal at WP:DRV rather than reinstating those sections here. - Fayenatic (talk) 15:37, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

On further checking, you have a point about the later AFD, for the list of real people, split 5:4; but the earlier one, on fictional characters, had a 9:2 split for deletion against merger, on the same grounds. Also, it seems to me that the people who voted for merger did not counter the arguments for deletion on policy grounds.
I used to argue for a short selective list, specifically this version of Sarah (given name), but I thoroughly lost the argument at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Anthroponymy/Archive 6#Again with the popularity contests.... - Fayenatic (talk) 20:35, 30 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Irish Names[edit]

I've removed the list of Irish equivalents to the name - none are in any connected to the name Sarah. The Translations section lists both "Iranian: سارا" and "Persian: سارا". Is this a mistake? I feel sure that it is. Would somebody care to delete whichever one uses the less customary name for that language — or perhaps replace both with "Farsi: سارا"? Kelisi (talk) 16:40, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese name “Sara” and it’s origin[edit]

Japanese name “SARA” is listed here as one of variants but the name has existed since Heian period and has no connection to the Western/Middle Eastern counterparts. It refers to a type of Camellia in Japanese and was used as female names.
