untitled[edit]

How can somebody claim that Sandnes is a city???? It has no cathedral, only a small population, it's not an old place and no university = town! Fredrik from Sandnes, 20.08.2005, 18:47

By that definition, neither would Bergen (no cathedral that I can remember). Anyway, I think it is a matter of population, not a matter of what is there. Oh and Sandnes is bigger than Drammen and Skien. [1] --ArneHD 15:24, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If Bergen doesn't have a cathedral, Oslo doesn't have one either, and Trondheim is the only city in Norway. ;) There's no reason why a place can not be a city even if it doesn't have a cathedral - this is not Italy, where every tiny town has a cathedral! --Aqwis 12:56, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The town of Sandnes doesn´t have a cathedral. This is true. But its inhabitants are a part of the most exciting and dynamic city region in Norway outside Oslo (the capital). I study architecture and most of my teachers advice us to apply for jobs in the Stavanger and Sandnes metropolitan area.

Right now I live in Bergen, and this city indeed have a cathedral. The cathedral even has a bomb shell in its facade! Greetings and welcome to Sandnes/Stavanger and Bergen, Harald Brynlund

3rd paragraph from end[edit]

I'd like to suggest that the following sentences be rewritten a bit, to make them closer to the usual English idiom. My version comes after them. Cunningpal 00:09, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The town also holds a vibrant industry mainly in the Ganddal area in the south and the Lura and Forus area in the north towards the Stavanger boundary. It is a significant activity towards the oil exploration in the North Sea and also a large cluster of IT related companies.

Almost, or actually a twin city?[edit]

If you start to walk from Tasta (the northernmost point of the Stavanger/Sandnes metro-area) towards the south, you may continue for 25 km without exiting the conurbation. I think that Stavanger/Sandnes absolutely should be called a Twin city, not 'almost a twin city'. Any comments or suggestions?--Simenhjort (talk) 15:16, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the text to "form a conurbation". "Conurbation" is "technical" language for an urban area with two or more centres, Stavanger and Sandnes in this case. --Aqwis (talkcontributions) 16:00, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Location in Google Earth[edit]

The placemark currently shown in Google Earth is located at the wrong position. Correct coordinates should be:

5.7396 deg E / 58.8516 deg N

Nah, looks good to me, zoom in a bit and you'll see it placed correctly on the bus terminal. Bjelleklang - talk 18:47, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The locations in this article (map on main page) and in Google Earth are not the same.

Picture[edit]

I guess the picture of a concrete-and-glass bus station is nice enough, but international visitors to this article would probably be more interested in seeing the old part of the city in the background a little better; maybe the waterfront, if there is a port/harbour, or main civic buildings. Bus stations are....well, bus stations...Skookum1 (talk) 03:16, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Merging Proposal[edit]

Discussion top|result=Proceeding with merging. Makkkkus (talk) 16:24, 30 January 2021 (UTC) Broken/Reverted[reply]

I propose that the Sandnes (city) page should be merged into the Sandnes page. Anything related to the city should instead be a part of the article about the municipality. This is how the article about Stavanger is structured, and I don't know why these neighboring municipalities are structured in a different way. In addition, the wiki page about Oslo is also structured similar to the page about Stavanger. Most people will only read the page about the municipality, and because of that — the city article will become outdated. The article about the municipality is what appears when searching for Sandnes on Google and Google Maps. A similar thing should also be done on the Norwegian Wikipedia, and the page about the munincipality should be written to resemble the Stavanger page. Additionally, two pages for one historical place might be confusing for readers. Makkkkus (talk) 18:20, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
