Time for a redirect?[edit]

He has now appeared as Sami Zayn on WWE Monday Night Raw, and is a mainstay of their developmental program. Regardless of how he's known on indie circuits, he's now more widely known as Sami Zayn. Article should redirect El Generico to Sami Zayn. Same with Pac (wrestler) redirecting to Adrian Neville. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.84.192.215 (talk) 17:58, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Soon but not yet, IMO. Remember, Generico wrestled internationally in Japan as well. When he is a mainstay of the main roster, then we can make the move. starship.paint ~ regal 02:19, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

He has now debuted on WWE's Main Event. He has a career vs title match at NXT Takeover in little less than a month. He is now on the main roster. Time to redirect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.205.112.135

I'm still opposed for the time being. Antonio Cesaro was US Champ before we moved him from Claudio Castagnoli. Generico had a prolific indies run as well as a run in Japan. If he's released from WWE tomorrow (it would be WP:CRYSTAL to assume he will have a long run in WWE) Generico will remain his WP:COMMONNAME. Zayn will likely become his common name at some point but I don't think we're there yet.LM2000 (talk) 00:27, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Cameos on Main Event aren't equivalent to officially joining the main roster on Raw or SmackDown. From what I've viewed, Zayn is still marketed as an NXT wrestler on Main Event. Also, you brought up his match with his career on the line? What if he loses? Oh God. starship.paint ~ regal 03:40, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I do think it's time to rethink this. Mostly because NXT in 2015 is much more visible and relevant than it used to be. There are quarterly NXT specials and the brand itself has become much more well-known. The performer is now more known as Sami Zayn. He appeared in a WWE video game under that name. I think it's time to change the policy of waiting until the person moves to the main roster. The brand NXT has become pretty big and is just as notable if not more notable than most of the independent wrestling companies he worked for under the name El Generico. Also, he's been working under the Sami Zayn name now for over two years and that is generally what those within the industry and fans call him now. Grammarian10 (talk) 05:21, 18 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think you're being fooled by the quarterly specials ... you can only watch them on the Network, they're not broadcast on television. Their maximum audience (the Network subscribers) is slightly over a million. Also, you're forgetting that El Generico has had more than thrice the longevity (over 2002-2013) than Sami Zayn, and has won titles in Japan and Germany as well. "Soon after the main roster promotion" is a bright and clear criteria on when to move pages, do you have even clearer criteria Grammarian10? starship.paint ~ ¡Olé! 00:31, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's time to change to his formal name, Sami Zayn. He debuted on Raw and is regarded as such. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.179.174.105 (talk) 18:11, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's actually not true that the Takeover Specials are only on the WWE Network. They are also available on Hulu. That's not quite as mainstream as the USA Network, but it still gives many more people the opportunity to see him wrestling under the name Sami Zayn.MoeHartman (talk) 09:15, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • He's been written out of storylines for NXT. I believe his next appearance would be his main roster promotion. It wouldn't hurt until then, when they stop referring to him as an "NXT Superstar". starship.paint ~ ¡Olé! 11:03, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The Bunny[edit]

@Dannys-777: - If you wish to include information that Sami Zayn is portraying the Bunny, well, Wikipedia needs a reliable source. Neither WrestlingInc nor GiveMeSport qualify as such. The list of Pro Wrestling reliable sources is at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Professional_wrestling/Style_guide#Sources. Here is a tool I came up with to Google those reliable sources, click here. I'd leave you to find a reliable source. starship.paint ~ regal 11:27, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Pro Wrestling Illustrated website links exclusively to WrestlingInc as an online news source, including a link to this story about Zayn portraying the Bunny which is currently listed on the PWI front page. I also feel like this particular case is being excessively scrutinized because fans of Zayn probably don't want to admit that he's playing the Bunny, which contradicts WP:NPOV. Dannys-777 (talk) 18:58, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We don't automatically consider every website that PWI magazine (or other RS) link to as reliable. If you really want WrestlingInc, then the onus is on you, @Dannys-777:, to get it approved by WT:PW or WP:RS/N. We're looking at whether the editors and writers can be considered experts in this field, and whether there is editorial oversight or fact-checking. To talk about NPOV is ridiculous because WP:RS hasn't been met yet. While PWI mag and even PWTorch have linked to Wrestling Inc, those are positives but are definitely not the final decision. starship.paint ~ regal 23:13, 20 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lucha de Apuesta record[edit]

For Sami's Lucha de Apuesta record, should we add the recent match where he won the NXT Championship? Jedi Striker (talk) 06:02, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

El Generico?[edit]

I think there's a mistake in this article. It lists El Generico here but El Generico is a retired former pro wrestler who runs an orphanage in Mexico. He has nothing to do with Sami Zayn. Please correct this. 205.237.108.19 (talk) 17:28, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That's just a story as to explain where El Generico went. It's not real. Is it still real to you? Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 09:29, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Tope Con Hilo[edit]

As El Generico, he had the Tope Con Hilo in his moveset. I've been searching to find a source for it. If anyone comes across something, add it. That would be helpful. Mr. C.C.Hey yo!I didn't do it! 09:31, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The following line seems to need a spelling correction:

In the following weeks, the tensions between Zayn and Jey Uso, another member of The Bloodline, escalated as Jey did not trust Zayn, and the constantly argued.
