Protection[edit]

@DMacks @DaxServer Can this page be protected, primarily from Chinnusaikrish and ilk's persistent disruptive edits to whitewash the image of their leader and political party? The above user has been very, very persistent in removing content cited from multiple academic and third-party media houses. Also, protect the pages of Sakshi TV and Sakshi (media group) if necessary. Thanks. Nikh Nori (talk) 07:18, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Nikh Nori The way to go is the Wikipedia:Dispute resolutionDaxServer (t · m · e · c) 07:38, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DaxServer: Chinnusaikrish was already taken to ANI for this and several other articles a few years ago, and you had already issued a level4 warning to them in the past for disruption at this article. @Nikh Nori: is this a user-centric problem or a page-centric problem? DMacks (talk) 14:08, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DMacks This is a user-centric problem. The same sort editing behaviour from Chinnusaikrish was present in Eenadu. Just trying to see if they learnt something all this time later, but seems not — DaxServer (t · m · e · c) 17:54, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Come to think of it, I probably shouldn't have replied while I was sleep-deprived — DaxServer (t · m · e · c) 18:08, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Complaints about the paper[edit]

@Chinnusaikrish, I see that you have removed this:

  1. Sakshi is widely regarded as a propaganda outlet for Jagan Mohan Reddy and his political party—YSR Congress Party (YCP).[5] It is frequently criticized for its biased coverage of the political rivals of Reddy and YCP.[10]
  2. The newspaper is a part of Sakshi media group which also owns the Telugu news channel, Sakshi TV.[11] As of 2023, it ranks second in circulation among Telugu daily newspapers behind its rival Eenadu.[12]
  3. According to a CBI chargesheet filed against Jagan Mohan Reddy, the investments in Sakshi newspaper and Sakshi TV were quid pro quo bribes by those people who had benefited from their unfair deals with his father's government.[13][14][15][16]
  4. The paper, along with its sister outlet Sakshi TV, is part of a recent trend wherein businesspersons-turned-politicians across India launched their own media organisations to influence public opinion to further their political interests.[17]
  5. For the period of 1H 2022, the circulation was reduced to 951,292, a reduction of 9.1% over two years.[18]

You gave an edit summary that says "Restored the page without malicious content delivered by some users to netural content." I'm not sure that's a full explanation.

I think I agree with #1. You toned down the wording ("propaganda", "rivals") but left in the substance ("often criticized for publishing news in the support of YSR Congress Party and being biased against the other political parties").

For #2, I don't see anything malicious. Why did you remove this? Would you consider restoring it? It is usual, when writing about a business, to say who owns it and how it compares to similar businesses.

For #3, this could be a very important fact – assuming that the courts agreed. This happened years ago; could we get an update? Perhaps the update will be "and 20 people went to jail" or "they were cleared of all wrongdoing" or something in between, but corruption is a big charge, and it would normally be mentioned no matter what the result was.

In #4, if this is something that reliable sources are saying, then including it would be neutral. This is a trend; it is not inherently derogatory to say that a newspaper follows its owner's politics, or that some people are smart enough and wealthy enough to realize that a newspaper is an effective way to influence public opinion.

In #5, I don't think this is malicious or non-neutral, but if it was a one-time downturn, then it wouldn't be an WP:ASPECT I'd bother to include. If it's part of a broader trend (i.e., circulation steadily declining, which introduces Going concern risks), then it really should be included.

What do you think? WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:47, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
