The scoby mushroom[edit]

"A SCOBY colony or culture may be referred to as a mushroom." Can this line be changed? Just because some writer from a college magazine used the term "mushroom" in reference to SCOBY, does not make it accurate. While all mushrooms are fungi, not all fungi are mushrooms. SCOBY isn't even a fungus in whole. It is part fungal and part bacterial. The part that is fungal isn't the type to produce a mushroom anyway. At best, this line should be deleted. At least it should be changed to: "A SCOBY colony or culture has been referred to as a mushroom, but this designation in inaccurate.". Enderwilson (talk) 22:34, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the "dubious" on Vinegar, a Mother of Vinegar is essentially a SCOBY. It carries out similar processes to wine as it does to tea, which is where the term is most popularly used. Composition and Action Inquiry[edit]

What conditions are necessary for both the yeast and bacteria to culture SCOBY specifically? Do these conditions vary between them causing them to be cultured separately, or are they cultured together? Bzidek20 (talk) 19:02, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
