The scoby mushroom[edit]

Acetobacter strains also build the scoby mushroom. What mushroom is this? It's mentioned and then ... nothing. 78.144.72.206 (talk) 16:13, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"A SCOBY colony or culture may be referred to as a mushroom." Can this line be changed? Just because some writer from a college magazine used the term "mushroom" in reference to SCOBY, does not make it accurate. While all mushrooms are fungi, not all fungi are mushrooms. SCOBY isn't even a fungus in whole. It is part fungal and part bacterial. The part that is fungal isn't the type to produce a mushroom anyway. At best, this line should be deleted. At least it should be changed to: "A SCOBY colony or culture has been referred to as a mushroom, but this designation in inaccurate.". Enderwilson (talk) 22:34, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the "dubious" on Vinegar, a Mother of Vinegar is essentially a SCOBY. It carries out similar processes to wine as it does to tea, which is where the term is most popularly used. I happen to make artisanal vinegars for restaurants, figured I could offer some insight. 63.239.219.67 (talk) 16:23, 25 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why has my original entry with examples and references disappeared ? Replaced by a rather stilted article .? Snapfizz (talk) 12:27, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What about Kimchi?[edit]

Isn't it made using a SCOBY? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.182.56.103 (talk) 15:11, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Composition and Action Inquiry[edit]

What conditions are necessary for both the yeast and bacteria to culture SCOBY specifically? Do these conditions vary between them causing them to be cultured separately, or are they cultured together? Bzidek20 (talk) 19:02, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
