Did it chart outside the top 75?[edit]

Why is it just described as charting 'outside the top 75' when actually it missed the top 200 altogether... was there possibly a reason it was banned from the charts? Should the article not just read that it failed to chart in the US and UK? It does seem unlikely (when it usually only takes hundreds of sales to get in the top 200... or did before downloads) but there is no record of this single ever registering at all! All the other places I've looked just lift their information from Wikipedia, and I don't think any of the above are very reliable either. It's so hard to get chart information outside the Top 40. Feathery Sunshine (talk) 15:19, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well it certainly didn't get to #59 (the week it should have charted, #59 was a new entry for 'Break You Off' by The Roots - http://www.dvdfever.co.uk/charts/mu160803.shtml) or the Top 75 which I did see at the time for all of the weeks around the time it was out. Usually, any entries to the top 200 are recorded at CLUK but there is no sign of this single - http://www.zobbel.de/cluk/CLUK_S.HTM . Is it possible it was barred because of the free sticker?! I know there are / were rules to do with size of posters etc. Was there a free gift with the CD?Retro junkie (talk) 17:56, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It seems the free sticker would be enough to mean the 7" sales were not chart eligible (and as 'Nothing More...' shows, vinyl sales alone would probably have got it in the top 75, certainly the top 200) but would CD sales not have been enough to chart? Surely they'd still count the CD sales on the charts though? I remember them playing the video on MTV and stuff a fair amount (I know that's hardly proof!) According to places I've looked (eg. http://www.discogs.com/Supergrass-Rush-Hour-Soul/release/1611162 & http://www.musicstack.com/item/5790373/supergrass/rush+hour+soul) there's nothing more on the enhanced content than the music video, which I know wouldn't affect chart eligiblity. The Velvet Underground & Nico album still peaked at #171 despite the banana sticker on the front of the vinyl (then again it was released over forty years ago). But then I found this article about Beck being denied into the charts for his stickers - http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2006/10/04/uk-charts-discriminate-against-becks-stickers/ - which was in 2006, so maybe the UK chart company didn't like stickers in 2003 as well. However, on 28th January 2003 Mary Star of the Sea was released by Zwan and allowed to chart at #33 in the UK despite being packaged with four stickers. The whole system seems really ridiculous to me, the USA always seemed to have accepted stickers, unlike the UK. Sorry I rambled on a bit there!
