Impact on plastics recycling?[edit]

Does rubber toughening make plastics difficult or impossible to recycle? Most recycling processes require purifying the material to prevent process contamination. It seems possible that a toughening coating may not be separable and may foul the purification process, but I am not a polymer engineer or scientist. Interesting question. If there is strong adhesion between the surfaces it should make them difficult to recycle. On the bright side, lots of waste materials (rubber and polymers) can be reused once incorporated into a toughened nanocomposite. PleaseSirMore (talk) 20:49, 17 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Proper Citation[edit]

The third paragraph lacks a source and it may soon be removed. "Well-known rubber toughened polymers include high impact polystyrene (HIPS), rubber-toughened nylon, and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS). In HIPS, polybutadiene domains are dispersed in a polystyrene matrix; in rubber-toughened nylon, typically cis-polyisoprene is dispersed in a Nylon matrix; in ABS, polybutadiene domains are again used, but for both polystyrene and acrylonitrile. For all cases, the inclusion of the rubber domains make these rubber toughening versions much more suitable for high-toughness applications."PleaseSirMore (talk) 12:57, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The last sentence of the lead is unclear. It seems to try to conclude toughening is only due to the addition of rubber particles. However, it in fact reads that toughening is due only to preventing crack propagation, which is quite a big conclusion that would need proper backing in literature.PleaseSirMore (talk) 13:05, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
