"Blusterberry"?[edit]

Removed the line 'Originally the purple fruit gums were referred to as "blusterberry", but this changed to blackcurrant in the 1990s after a failed advertising campaign.' It's had a 'Citation needed' tag for over two years, and the only Google results for "blusterberry fruit gums" are direct quotes of this Wikipedia article.

The edit history of this line is interesting. It was originally added from 90.201.191.181 on 16 Feb 2011 and read 'Originally the red fruit gums were raspberry, but this changed in the 1990s'. On 15 October 2011, a user at 129.215.149.96 changed the line to 'Originally the purple fruit gums were blueberry, but this changed to blackcurrant in the 1990s'. Finally, on 13 October 2014, a user at 129.215.5.255 changed it again to 'Originally the purple fruit gums were referred to as "blusterberry", but this changed to blackcurrant in the 1990s after a failed advertising campaign'.

The 129.215.*.* block belongs to the University of Edinburgh, so it's likely to be shared by many users. Both IP addresses have a lot of warnings for unconstructive editing, though there do seem to been legitimate edits from those addresses as well.

I'm fairly sure that the purple/black gums were always blackcurrant (blueberry being an uncommon flavour in the UK, and practically unknown at the time Fruit Gums were invented), and the red gums did change from raspberry to strawberry in the 1990s. However, as I can't find a citation relating to either, I've removed the line altogether. Raynerlucas (talk) 00:56, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
