Untitled[edit]

do the words pitch, slope, angle, incline etc. have subtle distinctions when used in roofing, or are they used interchangably? In math slope is usually a ratio, and an angle is measured in degrees or radians; does this apply to roofing as well?

'CATSLIDE ROOF. A roof with one side longer than the other, continuing at the same pitch over an extension to a building.'

The illustration of roof pitches is helpful but the labeling on each little house is in opposite format than the descriptions used in the rest of the article. In other words the 5/12 pitch roof is labeled 12/5.----

function?[edit]

What are the functions of a pitched roof? Rtdrury (talk) 04:12, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Added language from roof.--Knulclunk (talk) 05:26, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Framing Square[edit]

A photograph of someone using a framing square to measure a 4/12 pitch would be a great addition to this article...... --Knulclunk (talk) 05:43, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

Merge. There is nothing material there (that belongs there) that isn't covered (or contradicted) at the Roof pitch article. It should be a subhead there. Wikiuser100 (talk) 13:53, 22 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that there should be a single 'pitched roof' article. 'Roof pitch' is simply the angle or slope of a pitched roof. This (roof pitch) article also appears to be US-centric. In the UK construction industry and Building Regulations, roof pitch is quoted in degrees. 80.176.88.21 (talk) 12:08, 29 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also agree with merge. Regarding US measurement standards (which are unique to the US, all other countries officially using the metric system), it seems clear that Wikipedia, being a worldwide effort, should always refer to US measurment standards as an exception.
