Re: Lucius Cossonius Gallus[edit]

I cannot find a source that this person was governor of Judea. I have consulted my notes from reading Edward Dabrowa, Legio X Fretensis: A Prosopographical Study of its Officers (I-III c. A.D.) (1993), & Werner Eck, "Jahres- und Provinzialfasten der senatorischen Statthalter von 69/70 bis 138/139", Chiron, 12 (1982); 13 (1983), & neither includes him. There is a L. Cossonius Gallus Vecillius Crispinus Mansuanius Marcellinus Numisius Sabinus who was suffect consul in 117, for whom there are 2 inscriptions that provide a cursus honorum, however neither include a governorship of Judea. So I think that (1) this was an early scholarly speculation based on the best information at the time, or (2) someone added bad information for whatever reason. Based on that, I'm removing the name. (P.S., all of the other names from 66 CE forward are attested by one of the two sources I mentioned.) -- llywrch (talk) 05:59, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
