'Voted' best comeback

As anyone with even a passing interest in music charts will tell you, the idea that a song could be 'voted best comeback' on the Hot 100 is nonsense. It re-entered the chart that week (it's common sense to call the week by it's chart date (July 7), not 'week 27'), it wasn't voted anything, and it's that website that calls a chart's highest re-entry a 'comeback', not Billboard, who actually produce the chart. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.145.241.121 (talk) 14:30, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Censorship on radio

I just heard this song on Virgin (UK) a noticed the word "ass" is blanked out (e.g. they just sing "Hire eight body guards that love to beat up / Sign a couple autographs so I can eat my meals for free" and "I'm gonna dress my with the latest fashion"). Obscure?

Hi, I've just re-added the info on the parody TCW did of this video. I find it hard to believe that you find a unit of the British military who are in a war zone making such a video as "too obscure".

Barring a truly newsworthy event, it's obscure trivia. It has nothing to do with the source of the video. The other parody you mention was notable for crashing a server at the MoD. (Although there's no supporting verification for that. I'd remove the other link as well, but I'm watching this article, not that one. Also, that text has been in place for over 2-1/2 years.) Please don't take it as an affront because of any affiliation you may have with TCW.

If you look at WP:SONG, the featured (model) articles do not have parody sections. Yesterday has a slew of parodies but not one is mentioned. I Love Rock 'N Roll has a section for other cover versions, which includes a Weird Al parody. song meaning

I'm removing the parts of the song meaning section that refer to the devil, since not only does it seem like a stretch, but it claims a citation int he form of "songmeanings.com" which is a site, like wikipedia, that is user-edited. IE I could right now add to it that the song is about the Armenian genocide, cite that and put it on wikipedia. Then I could go to the Nickelback page and write that they had addressed controversial topics such as the Armenian genocide. Then I could go BACK to songmeanings and write that I wanted to suck Chad Kroeger's penis, and then I could come back to "rockstar" on wikipedia and write that "this song makes some listeners want to suck chad kroeger's cock" point taken? I think there's nothing wrong with citing user-edited sites -- you just have credit the *user* not the site. Is it appropriate?

It may be discouraged but I don't see anything in the list guidelines to justify its removal. The list does appear to violate verifiability. Also, it contains the lyrics to the song, which may infringe copyright as I don't think annotated lyrics qualify as fair use. I don't think it's satire. I think it's the truth

I think the lyrics accurately describe how life is for a modern rock star.

If you think about it, most modern rock stars (Green Day, Blink 182, Marilyn Manson, Evanescence, Moby and Foo Fighters) live exactly the kind of life describe in the song.

Nickelback is trying to warn future rock stars about going down the wrong road. That's why Gene Simmons is in the video, he represents the more honorable, less frivilous and less money-hungry rock stars of the 60s/70s.

Not sure which you're addressing, the bath or the Sydney shot. The bath is definitely Dominique Swain and the Sydney shot is of two women, one of which is in an earlier shot alone in front of the bridge. At a minimum you'll need to resolve: 1) being in Sydney; 2) having red hair; and 3) having a totally random friend be in one more shot than herself in Sydney.

If you have a higher-resolution version of the video (there are links on this page), you will see that it is clearly not LeVar Burton. It's also not the butler from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Just to be clear, I was the OP, and did not at any time edit this article. (And inasmuch as it matters, yes, I'm white.) At first glance, the participant bore a passing resemblance to Mr. Burton, but I posed the question here first. In looking at the video since then (and at higher resolution), Kevin is absolutely correct, and I refrained from making the edit. The OP was redirected to a better quality copy so they could be personally satisfied. Music video section a bit excessive?

I feel like Wikipedia is not really the appropriate place to list every single cameo or appearance in a music video, especially when that list is over 100 items long. I mean, the section even mentions Yahoo Answers (which, in itself, is not exactly 'notable' enough for inclusion on Wikipedia)... Contradiction - The describing paragraph in Music Video states that "At the end of the video Nickelback is shown playing live on stage; this shot was filmed in July 2007, at a show in Mansfield, Massachusetts." Yet in the numbered break down of each scene, it says "128. When was the video filmed though? It's not an exact likeness, but it depends how far apart the filming of the show and the video were. I did a quick search for the name (it's none of the BW's on wikipedia) and google linked me to http://uk.imdb.com/name/nm2857022/ ...bit of a long shot, but could it be the same guy? His one credit is for "Keeping Mum" which is a UK movie and he was "production banker" for the film and looks to me like a banker in the song :-)

Guy in the steel mill

I have no evidence of this, but if you look at the guy in the steel mill with the shovel and the hard hat, it looks like his shot was done in front of a green/blue screen. Semi-protected edit request on 12 December 2021

I have 4 edit requests: 1) The third sentence of the first paragraph of this article should be changed from "The lyrics feature the pretentious, materialistic desires of a wannabe rockstar, who craves money, cars and women.", to "The lyrics feature the hopes of someone who desires to be a rockstar."

The above change is needed to remove personal opinion from an informational article.

2) Perhaps the second paragraph in the section "Composition" (starting sentence "In May 2020, Kirk Johnston") should be moved into a different section titled "Lawsuits".

The above is suggested to differentiate the description of the composition of the song and the lawsuit filed against it.

3) Under the "Critical Reception" section: Starting from the sentence "A 2008 Popjustice poll voted "Rockstar" as the worst single of the year.[10]" to the end of the paragraph should be removed.

The above is suggested to balance the reviews of the song and return the article to a neutral tone.

4) Under the "Critical Reception" section: The second paragraph (starting with the sentence "The song has been used to mock the band.") should be removed.

1)  Done Clearly in violation of WP:NPOV. Good call.

2)  Partly done: I've made your suggested section Lawsuit a heading 2 sub-section of Composition, rather than an entirely different section, as it is directly related to the song's composition.

3)  Partly done: I have opted instead to remove A 2008 Popjustice poll voted "Rockstar" as the worst single of the year., stating that "If aliens came to earth and asked why everyone hates Nickelback so much, this song would be a perfect explanation.", and He concluded his review by stating, "In summary, this song makes literally no sense and is the worst thing of all time.". I've left the rest in order to try and maintain adherence to WP:WEIGHT, as it appears - based on my knowledge of the article - that the mainstream opinion is that the song is poor.

4)  Done I agree that both the mentioning of the British sofa retalier and the Cyanide and Happiness skit is not really relevant, and is a bit silly.
