I started this article after a question on the RefDesk. Thanks to those who already (!!!) made improvements. You need to give each reference a name and then refer to the named reference. It's probably easier to do than to explain; I'll do it in this article and then you can look at the source to see how it works. - EronTalk 20:43, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, it's done. Basically, the first time you use a reference you include a name in the opening ref tag: <ref name="Foo">[Content of your reference]</ref>. When you want to use the same reference again, you insert a single reference tag with the same name: <ref name="Foo" />.
For this article, I named all the reference with the last name and initials of the first listed author. I named all of them, including the ones only used once, so that you can add additional references to the article later. - EronTalk 20:58, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
