Added the details on how to actually remote-enable a function / RFC in SAP. Have a nice day! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cyberroach (talkcontribs) 2007-04-02T23:20:50

Neutral?[edit]

This article is written as if SAP is the only software that uses RFC. I believe that RFC is a generic software interface supported by many different operating systems and software applications. It would be good if a software expert reviewed this article and updated it to reflect a more generic view, with specific details for SAP and maybe others. I agree, that this article aims to much on SAP and that this needs to be generalized, although SAP might continue to be mentioned --217.91.63.213 (talk) 17:44, 21 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I also agree that an RFC does not necessarily imply use of SAP. I am not entirely sure what the distinction is, but it would be nice if someone could add a section also clarifying the difference between an RFC and an RPC (Remote Procedure Call). Mraric (talk) 14:15, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to Vicki-Lynn Brunskill on http://searchsap.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid21_gci522838,00.html RFC is defined as an interface betwen programs and SAP. I.e. the emphasis on SAP is not only OK, it would be incorrect not to focus on SAP.

More sources would have to be found to support this to claim, however, to make me completly sure that the article should be SAP only.FrederikHertzum (talk) 07:49, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Remote function call" vs "Remote procedure call"[edit]

From what I understand, in its broad meaning, "remote function call" is synonymous to "remote procedure call". However, googling shows the latter having much higher rate. Also, googling suggests the former term is indeed used predominantly in the context of SAP.

Term Rate Context Rate Link
Remote procedure call 831 000 General [1]
Remote function call 37 600 SAP [2]

I agree that they are synonymous, and we have plenty of information about the concept at remote procedure call. I have moved this page to upper case to indicate that this is a proper name used in SAP-land, and more clearly linked to the article about RPC. John Vandenberg (chat) 09:56, 10 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
